Who has the best back rest?
#24
So HarleyCharlie got me to laughing then thinking about how old Dolly is looking these days (even though still plenty there for a backrest), then I saw Ybnorml's wonderful profile and thumbnails, and I must say I became distracted for a while, pondering the magnificence of contour theory.
Then I snapped back and for some reason started thinking about backrests again.
My advice would be, as previously stated, don't invest money in a backrest that has to go with a seat that you may not be very comfy sitting on for a long period of time. Just about any backrest feels pretty good, but the key is not the backrest, but the saddle. If you end-up disliking the saddle, then now you have a saddle and a backrest you have to sell, at a marked discount. Ride on that saddle for a while, break it in, see how you think you are going to like it on some multi-hundred mile trips. If it works for you, then go with the HD backrest options. If not, then go with some of the other recommendations.
I personally prefer the Mustang seat and backrest. I have tried dreadfully to "like" the HD seats, but it ain't happening for me. I have the stock HD seat in the box out in the garage if anyone wants it. And it's new.
