FedEx Delivery - American Elite Tire
Fed Ex just delivered my new American Elite rear tire. It looks like a really nice tire! Smooth, shiny sidewall with contrasting raised letters and a stars and stripes logo.
I should go out to the garage and install it right now but I'm not going to do that.
First I need to get my odometer to 20,000. I've gotten 19,543 miles on the original D407 so far and I think an even 20k would be a nice milestone. More miles than I have gotten on any previous M/C tire by a longshot.
I'd continue running the D407s except for the fact that you can't get as good a deal on them - they're only available through HD. Time will tell if this American Elite provides similar mileage but I expect it will. It has the same (or similar) dual compound technology as the D407.
So... I'm off for a 457 mile ride Probably won't quite get all of that in today, but you never know.

If I could get my picture sized right I'd show you a American Elite with 10,000 miles, just took off my 2009 Ultra, only has 1/32 tread in center and lots of feathering both sides!!! Not much chicken strip!!
This 10,000 miles were all Smoky Mountain roads in western NC riding, always had 41 to 42 lbs, and aligned properly, lots of 3rd gear riding using a lot of engine braking for the twisties!! Just put on new takeoff 407 tire and wheel that I bought from a member here, hope it lasts longer than 10,000 miles if not might have to go Darkside!!!

bet it doesn't. i changed out my original tires at 20k on my 2010. this new compound dunlop is using is pretty awesome. i could have gotten even more mileage, but was getting ready to take a roadtrip and wanted to start with new shoes the really odd part was that my front tire was more worn than the rear.

Well, I only got 160 miles in this afternoon. The winds were beating the sh*t out of me. In the neighborhood of 40 mph. I saw semi's doing like 30 mph with there flashers on. Eventually I just got off the freeway and did backroads and surface streets. Can't rack up too many miles that way, but it was a nice ride nonetheless. Tomorrow's another day.
Got a fix-it ticket on PCH in Malibu. CHP got me doing 75 in a 55 but cut me some slack. After he finished writing the ticket and was walking back over I said, "no break today". He replied "I never give breaks". I said, "never"? He answered, "never". I thought to myself, "you a**hole". When he handed me the ticket to sign I didn't have my glasses so I couldn't read it. I asked him "so how fast did you write me up for"? He said "I didn't. I wrote you up for your expired registration sticker".
Moral of the story... Don't put your new sticker on until you get caught. Might save you a speeding ticket.
What tread? LOL. Actually you can still see a very little. Maybe .010 -.020 or so. Or at least the outline of where the tread was.
I have no problem using all of my tires before changing, but even I wouldn't be riding on that one. I'd be willing to bet that tire came off a bike in a burn-out contest.

Only got about 10K mi off my '09 tires, front was howling (plenty of tread) and rear was close to 3/32 in the center. Sides were fine but started getting a little slippery on corners. It only takes one or two little wobbles, replaced them immediately. Only downside, could not find an AE that had the thin whitewall, really liked the look on the originals.
