Hello All,

Just ordered a new (taller) windshied for my SG how do I change it? All instructions, tips, and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Easy, from the front of the bike remove the three screws at the top of the fairing. Once those screws are removed seperate the outer fairing and inner fairing slightly and pull the windshield out. Install the new one. Real simple.

 

Its very straightforward and simple. Just remove the allen head bolts on the front of the fairing, right below the windshield and pull up on the windshield with a little of a rocking motion. The main thing to watch for when you put it back on is that you don't overtighten the bolts. The bolts go into an insert that is mounted in plastic. If you tighten too much, the inserts will pull out. Finger tight is fine. If the windshield squeaks at idle, just loosen the bolts, readjust the windshield and retighten. Good luck.

I did the fastaire way...don't totally remove the bolts. loosen the 3 in front, and loosen 2 in back. pull the old shield out. I peeled just enough of the stuff that came on the new windshield to get it seated. after tightening the 5 bolts, i then peeled the rest of the protective paper off....no scratches!

 

Jimbo, that photo looks suspiciously like a new-bike photo from HD of BR. Here's mine, bought 11/22/06. It's Black Cherry, which is hard to tell in the photo. Haven't seen you around, but I'll be looking.

I also bought my 06 SG from BR, great people to deal with, now that the Hammond store is open I do all my business there.

Yep, it came from HD of BR. I almost bought the Black Cherry SG. Something about the Cobalt Blue that kept catching my eye.

I ride the River Road every afternoon after work from Geismar to over by The Cabin, back up to Gonzales, back to Dutchtown, just to clear the cobwebs.
