Default Headlight trim ring crack fix

I have the visor style headlight trim ring PN 69733-05 that had a half inch crack at the bottom. I tried several approaches to close the ring and nothing worked. I saw a post in one of the threads about modding the headlight bucket to make tabs for the ring to ride on instead of riding on top of the stock chrome ring. I did this mod last spring and forgot to take some photos. WHen I had the headlight apart this past weekend, I remembered to grab some shots:

I used tin snips and the dremel to make this tabs around the bucket. THe trim ring rides around these tabs and the original trim ring is no longer used.

Here is a shot of the gap that is no more:

I put about 6K miles on the bike over the summer and there was no movement of the ring.

Never had the problem with the ring not closing all the way on any of the 3 dressers I've had them on, even though I've heard of the problem. Sounds like a strong fix for members who do.

Yeah, many posts about users who have no issues with the install instructions provided but the issue I had was that the stock ring was too large for the trim ring to close entirely, even when not installed on the bike. Before I did this mod I even tried notching the outer perimeter at about half inch increments and then folding each notch towards the center and this still didn't allow the chrome ring to close. After that effort, I was willing to give this a try.

The easiest fix for this is simply back off of the headlight bucket screws a tad bit and it will close the gap right up, the ring needs to go behind the bucket thats all.

I had the same experience as Hockey. Supposed to soosen the original ring to allow the accessory ring to pull into the gap behind it. Loosen just enough so that it's not too loose and the trim ring applies a bit of pressure into the gap. Ring will close and nothing will rattle. The installation instructions specify this.

How about a side shot showing the gap between the trim ring and housing.

I don't have a shot of the trim ring from the side but it is flush next to the nacelle. Next time I have it out from the cover I will try and grab a shot.

Just an observation. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you're missing the reflector, located inside the light just in front of the bulb, that directs the light back at the main reflector. I happen to have one off my '09 UC you can have if what I think I see is correct. PM me if you want it. (Presently just collecting dust in my garage).
