I live in AZ and have yet to hear of anyone getting hassled for pipe volume. I do take it easy in the town of Carefree, though.

loud pipe tickets are a city noise ordinance. I was riding through Independence, Ohio a small suburb of Cleveland. 12:30 P.M. afternoon. It was a 35 MPR business zone, bumper to bumper traffic, doing about 15 MPR in 5 lane traffic. Pulled over and received a ticket for excessive noise. After the fact it seems that the Mayor in this small town had been receiving a lot of complaints from the local citizens, complaining about loud motorcycles on a bike night that is sponsored by a Quaker Steak and Lube to the adjacent city. On that bike night they can get 4,000 bikes and a lot of them come roaring through the city at late hours. I spoke to the chief of police and he informed me that the mayor was hot on this issue and instructed the police dept. to enforce the local excessive noise ordinance. Sure enough they had an article in their local newspaper that month that stated the mayor heard the citizens complaints and they continued to site statistics on how many excessive noise tickets they issued. The Mayor was just looking to please his voters and get re-eleted. I did not get this ticket on bike night nor at noon at 15 MPH was I bothering anyone in bumper to bumper traffic through a business section. Just in the wrong place in the wrong time. It can happen anywhere in the country.

In Las Vegas, anything goes. Straight pipes are not uncommon. Violent crime is the issue here, and we've got plenty.

To you it may not be worth it. But to me I would go to Court and take a mouthpiece and let him complain to the city.
I don't like BS laws in Cities. A lot of Diesel trucks and garbage trucks are louder.
I would also git a petition up agaist him for the way he likes to give out tickets and get as many folks to sign the petition and send it to him.
If you get enough people who will say they will help vote you can make a difference.
Also go to the city town meeting and voice it if you get enough votes.

I heard a rumor here in CT that some of the shoreline towns like Old Saybrook had local businesses complaining about the loss of money due to the enforcement of loud pipes and hence less bikers were riding through town in the summer.

If I was the bikers I would be boycott'n the place.
If the local law enforcement wants to write tickets and jack with folks buying gas, eatin at the stores and probaly staying at some motels. Not to mention spending money at the local watering holes.
I wouldn't want to spend a penny there. Avoid the place totally.
Spend the money where folks cater to you .
We have places here that like bikers. They know they will be spending money and they need the business.

Its not the LE wanting to write tickets... its the azzholes who want local laws enforced.
Shows the people that their mayors/elected officials that they are tuff on crime lol

Try going to Lakeway with loud pipes... rich people will be jumping all over themselves calling the police about the noise etc:

I seen them make a a guy with a really expensive chopper ton of money in it.

before all the rockstar cake decorators on tv I had received several tickets.
I am not loud nor do I rock any markings other than HD on my clothes or bike.
I never ride on friday or saturday nights without planning on talking to the cops not even one sip no contraban. I have seen 20 cop cars show up for a gun just being displayed. I got three tickets in one day in my 71 cuda 440. I got a parking ticket on a car I was going to pull the motor out of and throw away, I wadded up the ticket threw it on the ground promptly received a littering ticket. 350 dollar fine for drinking a beer on my front porch hour and a half to finish f ing with me... i could go on forever...
I have learned to take the long way the unpopulated streets I know where to slow down etc etc
I still love it here.
I have a '73 340 Cuda and '73 416 Challenger... It seems that officers in my area like looking at these cars and my bike but I have NEVER gotten a ticket in them or on my bike. All three are loud and obnoxious. Especially the sublime green Challenger putting 500+ HP to the ground...

Do you happen to know Rich Nedbal at Mopar Engines West? He built my small block stroker for my Challenger.
