Back when I had an 04 e-glide one of my injector wires went bad to where it would pull apart inside the insulation. It was under warranty and they had to splice a longer wire into the harness. The original was to short. I understand it was a common problem. So was the fuel line in the tank going bad.

First thing a leaking line or a stopped up filter inside the tank is going to do is affect the idle since the line pressure is fixed with a bleed off inside the tank. This is what most people think is a leak inside the tank. (not saying a line cannot break but if it idles it's probably not that.) You do not mention miles on bike. After telling you it was the chain tensioners and selling you that I'm surprised they did not go ahead and fix it since they obviously missed the call. I think it may be a bad connection to the MAP sensor on the throttle body ar a intake leak affecting it. It however should throw a code if it's running bad enough to misfire and is easy to check with a vacuum pump and volt meter. Have you checked the compression of the engine for mechanical condition?

I didn't see any spray or bubbles in the tank when I turned on the ignition.

grf000, they've actually been pretty good about this. I haven't been charged anything more than my initial 50 dollar copay on my extended warranty. She's got 71000 miles on her without a hint of trouble until two months ago when she started missing, mostly when I was gently accelerating or easing off on the throttle. Since then, the dealer has cleaned the throttle position sensor and replaced the ECM and ignition coil, not to mention, of course, the new hydraulic cam chain tensioners, lifters, cam plate, etc.

Actual low compression due to wear would kill the power but run OK unless it was say a leaking valve causing it. In the exhaust you could live with a little but the intake would cause all kinds of run ability problems you describe. Do have to realize I am guessing so afar away and the experts (I hope ) are working on it. Be sure you post back here what they find. Only reward us hobbiest get for studying our manuals and contemplation of problems other then when mine does the same thing in 30K and I will know exactly what to look for. I got some bad gas and mine quit idling. Spent 2 weeks trying to figure it out. Driving to work saw the gas station digging his tanks up due to them leaking. Third tank of gas I got into it and the problem went away. You have a lot of miles. Could be injectors but if it were I would think it would not idle. My stock 04 FI is completely stock with no piggyback add-ons and never misses a beat for 40K Run it year round long as it's above freezing. Only do PM once a year and stick nothing in tank except mid grade ethanol gas (all we have here)

I would hope that they checked compression...the dealer told me they have a flowchart that they go through. When I got it back, they were at the point in said flowchart where they replaced the ignition coil and ECM. Haven't had any problems so far. I've got 71,300 miles on the bike, I ride year 'round regardless of the weather (something we can do here in Redneck Land) and I service her every 3 thousand miles religiously, although the manual says to do it every 5k. Would I use oil if there were a compression problem or would I see any other symptoms? If there were a compression problem, how do I fix that?
