Yep dry neck upon delivery of my 12 streetglide makes you wonder what the dealer prep consist of

 

how do you know the necks are? are you saying there`s grease fittings in the neck? seems odd

 

Yes a zerk is on the left side of the neck. Turn the bars full right and you will find it

 

oil filter

put a piece of tin foil under it to form a channel to your drain pan

use a craftsman phillips head screw driver and bang a hole in the end at the bottom, and an air hole near the top

let drain

use your holes ( or create new) to twist the filter loose.

i can tell you that pdi does not consist of greasing the neck bearings. they are packed at the factory, and the neck tube is not pumped full of grease. so even though it took a tube, or tube and a half of grease to fill it 'to spec', it doesn't mean that it was 'bone dry'....

i know of 3 schools of thought on this:

1. pump the sucker full until it oozes (as per the manual)

2. leave it alone, the neck bearings are not under high rotational load and can last for many thousands of miles with the factory grease alone.

3. take the head apart, and regrease the bearings every xxxx miles

i'm not gonna tell you which school of thought to subscribe to, like oil, that is your decision to make.
