+1 on the K&N oil filter. I did my first oil change at 1K and spilled about a 1/4 cup in all.
Amazed myself. 2nd oil change at 3K i made a bit of a mess, but no big deal; used the Scavenger oil change on that and went mobil-1 20-50 synthetic.

Cheers,

Mark

She tells me to wait a minute.
She comes back with one of her school folders, cuts the thin plastic see thru cover off (size of a piece of paper) forms a U and works it up under the filter.
Didn't spill a drop and haven't since. No holes in the filter no cut bottles.

That is awesome, too cool.

As mentioned before by others, I use an antifreeze jug flat down on it's side to catch the oil under the bike. When cut right you just cut out some of the side and leave top handle and spout with cap in place - kind of like a big tray that makes a great low profile catch all. Also excellent for catching lawn mower oil, as well as for cleaning small greasey parts too. I keep it clean, stacked with my bigger 9 qt. container for auto fluids. As for the filter area, can't beat the K/N filter, catch jug under it is half gal.square jug with enough removed on the side with a lip at the bottom and the filter fits right in it, no mess, square jug stays where you want it. In time, we should all find what works best for us, I just don't see how some people make the big mess over and over and not improve their technique...

I use my jack for a lot of maintenance, but oil changes I have found are much cleaner draining oil directly into a low profile pan. I also like the stuff the paper towel under the filter method with my SG.

Low oil pan and a can of brake cleaner on my gravel driveway.

And I don't know why, but since I switched to a Wix filter, I can loosen the filter with just my hand, which I find quite convenient.
