how does the 7.25 outperform a 6x9? How does your speaker stand up to a heavy down-pour?

Just a couple questions to help you sway people away from the Cycle Sounds lids, which I have and really like the design. facts please!

 

I installed a set of Cycle Sound lids with the Rockford 4ch amp and 6.5 inch Hertz in the fairing and 6x9 Polk Audio in the lids. This combination produces a great sound...but keep in mind when riding over 40 mph the Cycle Sound lid speakers will not be heard...but your passenger will enjoy the great sounds.

How do your Cycle sound lids withstand a good downpour??? Don't the speakers fill up with water?

 

Are the RF speakers 6x8 or 6x9? And not to throw salt, but I did cycle sounds with JL audio 6x9's and really don't believe the 7.25 speaker sounds better.

 

Just want to say thanks for everyone's input on my original post. To john from jm can u beat native custom baggers price on the lids and how do they hold up against a down pour. That is one of my major concerns about doing this project to the bike.
To 1sweetglide. Thanks for input I'm mostly doing it for the wife. She says she can't hear the fronts. I call it selective hearing on her part.

The problem with most speakers in the saddlebags is: substandard speakers, or underpowered.

Lots of guys get the kits, but aren't satisfied with the end result. The lids are a TON of money !!!!!

I don't need bag space, so I put mine in the bags.

I haven't seen the J&M speakers installed or the others offered by other aftermarket vendors. HD actually uses two different speakers in the lids: (1) the ones used in the SESG3 (and HD's "Custom Touring" accessory kit) are 1 ohm impedance; and, (2) the ones offered in the saddlebag speaker lid kit are 2 ohm impedance.

Both versions of the HD speakers mount the tweeter in a bridge rather than on a stalk installed through the cone. I suspect that using a bridge for the tweeter provides some better water intrusion protection for the woofer cone/voice coil than mounting the tweeter on a stalk. I selected the RF 6x8 T1682's because they also use a bridge to mount the tweeter.

HD's primered lids list for $119 ea. Add the cost of grilles ($42.50 ea.) and the pair of lids and grilles costs $325 list or so.
