Thinking about getting a full face helmet; Pros/Cons?
#91
I have a 1/2 and a 3/4 helmet but have recently been thinking about getting a full face hemet. What are the pros/cons with a full face and what should I be looking for?
Your feedback is appreciated by me and by others who will read this post.
Thanks in advance and Ride Safe.

To the OP...
I see you live in Southern California. If you haven't pulled the trigger yet on a FF, I'd suggest hitting the bike show in Long Beach on Dec 9-11. There will be a larger selection of helmets there than you'll be able to find anywhere. Just about every type and manufacturer you can imagine.
I bought mine at the show last year. I actually got a modular - Shoei Multitec.
Pay attention to the weight. No matter what you get it will be heavier than what you're used to and will take a bit of getting used to. Some of the cheaper off-brand knockoffs, while decent helmets, can be heavier than their more expensive counterparts.

A broken collar bone, a shoulder, etc can be operated upon and will heal.
A chin, ripped off, located quickly lying on the road next to the rider, if still in one piece, is not easily re-attached. lol
Now, once a rider has lost the lower half of his/her face, I can see him/her chosing a 1/2 helmet...

I got T-boned last Sunday, got home from the hospital yesterday. I had an HJC-100 1/2 helmet on. There is substantial road rash and impact marks at the front edge of the helmet, and around the sides. My glasses look like someone took a belt sander to them. My nose and the area around my right eye are a gawdawful mess, but they'll heal.
I consider myself very lucky that I went down the way I did, as my nose isn't broken, and my face is relatively intact. Had I had a FF helmet on, I would have sustained no facial injuries. Had I not been wearing a helmet, I'd either be dead or have profound head and brain injuries.
Arguing that no helmet or a half helmet is safer than a FF helmet is slightly less intelligent than arguing that the Earth is flat. Any helmet is better than none, and a FF is the safest choice.
You may now return to your bickering.
