Audio CDs on your bagger

Great info
Excellent find!!
Here is the correct answer...
I found it on roadglide.org, by GovDog76,
"The problem is the ID3 version that your MP3 files are using. There are many versions, and most software (like iTunes) uses version 3.x.
The stereo in our glides only really likes v1.x
Depending on what software you have on your computer, there are several ways to deal with this. I use iTunes, so for me it was easy to copy my entire music collection to an external drive (so i did not muck with my "real" collection) and then select all the songs, and select the option in iTunes to "convert ID3 tag." This then allows you to select the version. I selected v1.0. this strips album art, lyrics, etc, but leaves song and artist name. Once you have done that, burn the MP3 CD. You will be set.
Let me know if you need more details and I will try to give more info.
Took me quite a while to figure this one out..."
Let me know if this does the trick for you...

i was gonna say that it was the id tag on the song but pfwiz beat me to it. specifically though, it is the embedded artwork that causes the deck to skip over it.
honestly, i have a mac, but haven't used it for burning much. i also have a pc, and have been using it for years for ripping and burning cds and dvds. the software that i use, is not available for the mac, so i continue with the pc. i barely know how to use itunes, i try to avoid it...
to rip a cd into mp3, use exact audio copy (and the lame plug in)
to burn the cd as data, i prefer nero (there is even a free version available)
im not 100% sure how to strip the id tags since i don't usually have that problem, but i believe media monkey (again there is a free version, notice a trend here ) can handle that.
but, even being able to do all that, i prefer using my ipod. don't have to worry about changing disks while on the road.....

True, but all players I have are capable of playing MP3s.
Here's a representative track from one of the CDs I recorded, showing the track's info. This particular disc was created using MP3 files, recorded as a data disc, created using the super drive in my iMac controlled by iTunes.

One thing I see here is the bit rate. Bit rate will not stop the CD from playing, but 160 kbps is going to sound like ****. You should always burn at the maximum which is 320 kbps. Also the sample rate should be at its highest. Make them as high quality as you can.
Record the same song, one at 160 and the other at 320, get on your bike and ride. Once you hear the difference you won't be able to stand listening to 160 kbps.
Also, get yourself an MP3 repair application, there are many free ones out there. When an MP3 becomes corrupt it will burn in some players but not others. This could be your problem.
I prefer using FLAC over MP3, but so far they don't make any radios that play FLAC.

However, I agree with the ipod suggestion. Why burn seedees when you can just bring an ipod on the bike. Much easier. Although it probably won't sound as good if you use the mini-plug connection on the HK, it will sound much better if you replace the head unit with one with USB in. Bypassing the internal DAC of the ipod is necessary for the best sonics.
That said, it is only going to sound so good at 70+ mph anyway.....

I am working on ripping my entire cd library to flac, and then having a duplicate in mp3 format for using on the bike, in the car, etc....
Too bad we can't get good ole analog (vinyl) sound on the bike.....

That's a great idea, when you are done send me a copy of both. After that I have about 800 CDs, you can start on those. Between the two of us we probably have music pretty much covered.

Hi,
i had this trouble for ages then found the answer on this website.
if you remove the album art from your i-tunes music that you want to burn it WILL be ok - try it !
the artwork will cause the track not to be recognised properly.
i have now done hundreds of tracks like this all are now working fine.
hope this helps.

MP3's must be burned onto a data disc to play properly on the HK. All music purchased from Itunes must first be burned onto a music disc and then ripped back to Itunes as an MP3. Then you can delete the original downloads.
If you do this you can then burn every song as many times as you'll ever want. And all of them will play on your HK with no issues - it's simple and it's always worked for me.
