Here's a shot of my Stebel installed. Can ya see it? Fits nicely under the cowbell. I think if you do a search you'll find some more info on this install. If you can't do this install yourself, don't try changing your oil. Its that simple.
I didn't like the looks of any of the air horns available and the mini beast just looks out of place. Kinda like a chrome pack of cigarettes or something. That and the cost difference. $40 verse $130+. No brainer.

Why would you reply so hostile? I don't care if you prefer a Mini-beast. I was just relaying information. Looks like some manners and agressiveness training could be appropriate. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine. Here's mine. You can have a break now. Take it and install your horn.
Assuming you mean me, the guy trying to learn something in a state of frustration--I'm not trying to be hostile, just eager to learn and trying to figure out what you did. No photos and a confusing description of the mods you made prevents me from duplicating your experience. OTOH, maybe I'm just dense. You say "The mounting bracket needed is a 1" X 2" piece of metal, at least 3/16" with a hole 1/2" in from the left side to mount on the bike's horn stud and another hole 1/2" from the right edge...." So which side is "right" and "left," the long or short side? I have no idea.

This is interesting and the route I'd really like to go, but I still don't know what's involved. Simple? Okay, I can probably handle that, being an long-time DIY'er and jury-rigger, and will search around for more info. It is invaluable reading direct info from those who've done these DIY jobs, as often there are pitfalls that need to get out to those who'll follow in that procedure. E.g., I just installed an oil-temp gauge on my SG, and the detailed instructions provided here on another thread saved a ton of time I would've spent with trial and error.

Iclick....I take your's and everybody's word that the Mini-beast is loud enough, but I'm not interested in it, (and I think I speak for some others as well) 'cause I don't like how it looks. (my opinion) It matters little to me that it'll just go right on easily. Same goes for the HD air horn. There are folks who think they're great too. I've heard them and was really underwhelmed by the loudness of them, and even more underwhelmed by their looks. I think they are a butt ugly, plastic POS. (my opinion again) Relatively large, horkin' horns that are real loud are looking better to me all the time. (just my opinion)
I'm just gonna have to get over the extra work it'll take to get them on, and start wearing grey, striped coveralls when I ride, like a railroad locomotive engineer.
Actually, I've never seen or heard the Mini Beast, but was enthusiastic based on individual comments on these forums. The chrome cover does look a bit, er, unimaginative--even though chrome plated--and tend to agree that it could stand some cosmetic improvement. I like 05 Ultra's install better.

As I posted previously, I have had the Mini-beast (which I liked very much) and the HD loud horn (which was not that loud and expensive). I agree that the HD horn is kinda odd looking and with only one horn report, not nearly as loud as I wanted. AND it's also expensive. The Stebel Nautilus is $34.95 plus freight, which INCLUDES the wiring kit and relay. You could buy four of these for the price of one HD horn and three for the price of a Mini-beast. They're available at www.bikerhiway.com. As a sidenote, being an old submariner, I have always wanted a diving alarm on my bike (you know, an aaooga horn). Well, I found one, it's named Carrand Old Time Aooga Horn, available at amazon.com. for $44.95 plus freight. It does not come with wiring or relay. However, it's almost as loud as the Stebel. In fact, I used the HD factory-installed wiring and relay for the Stebel, and used the Stebel wiring harness and relay for the aaooga horn. Since I don't carry any passengers, I mounted it horizontally on the front of the tourpak, underneath the attached vinyl pillow, with a surface-mounted horn button on the right side No More Fried Thighs heat shield. Sorry, no pictures and I hope I'm forgiven for mentioning something that requires installation. So now, I hit 'em with the Stebel, followed by the diving alarm. Talk about getting someone's attention!

I apologize for not being able to communicate well. Let me try again. Remove the HD horn cover, unplug the wiring and take the horn off. You are left with a stud sticking out at you from the middle of a rubber bushing. The Stebel horn has no hole for the stud. It must attach on the back, so you can't use the stud as it is. You need to find or cut a piece of metal. I would use at least 1/8" thickness, approximately 1" verticla and 2" horiozontal. Drill a hole for the stud more to the left side of the metal. Drill another hole near the right side. Fit it onto the stud, and secure it with the nut from the HD horn. Since the hole you used is on the right edge, the piece of metal sticks out a little more to the right, or to the rear of the bike. Use the mounting bolt and nut that comes with the Stebel, through the back of the right side hole in your new piece of metal and thread into the nut in the back of the Stebel horn. Plug the wires back on and that's it. Then clear out the animals and kids and try it. Again, no pictures. My wife don't mess with my Harley and I don't mess with her digital camera.

I'm with Bryan TTM....I'd prefer to retain the cowbell. I just had no idea the Stebel would go under it. I spent the last little while figuring on mounting the Stebel up front on the plate between the frame's downtubes and mounting the relay under the cowbell, but now it looks as though 05 Ultra has shown up an alternative, acceptable solution. I believe it's now safe for me to go ahead and order the Stebel. Didn't really want a pair of locomotive coveralls and horns to go with them.

Where'd you mount the relay for the Stebel?

Under the cow bell is a great idea. Much better than my fabrication. I'll dig out the old horn tomorrow and see if I can put the bell on. Can't do it tonight. Dexter's coming on and I'd hate to miss a killin'.
