Not sure, but do not be alarmed. My bike did 200 checking it the same way you did yours, and I am supposed to have 10.4-10.6 to 1 compression doing the math. I would say that you are right in the ballpark. As BryanTTM said, cold or hot does not really matter, but most people compare cold readings. I have no idea why.

178 on both i would say your good Bud, it's nice to know where you stand. I always like to check compression on cold cylinders so you get a true reading, IMO. If you check it when it's hot................... metal expands when heated, i like to see just how tight the motor is. That's just my prefference, not saying it's right or wrong just the way i like doing it.

I think you would get a more accurate reading with engine the wramed up.IMO.
