Having had a 95 , an 09 and now a 12 Limited, imho, the new frame and tire plus the limiteds goodies including abs are the best for my use. Some forget that the 12s also have different gearing than before. For those with a 96 with stage 1 and pipes thinking it will run with a similar 103......aint gonna happen

Unless you put cams in this puppy, the difference with a 96" is negligeable.
By the way, gear ratios are the same between the 103" Limited and the 96" Ultra.

There have been a lot of comments for both sides of the debate. Never having had any experience with the new frame and am comfortable on the older frame, I don't think it is something I would miss. A point that "mazz" brought up about ABS is a good one. I have sent the dealership an email about my interest for the 2008 Ultra with ABS. The extras it has would be costly to put on a new one, including true duals luggage rack on the tour pack, and some other chrome pieces.
It will be hard to get rid of the RKC but my wife has some health issues that I'm hoping a more comfortable bike will interest her in getting back out with me.
Now I wait for the dealership to get back to me.

Would the dealer let you and your wife take a real good test ride with the 2008 ?? and a 2009 and above ?? As you said, reasons are not just for you.. I have had both bikes and now a 2010 Limited, would I go back to 2008 ? Yes... Am I happy w/2010, yes.. For all the cost diffence's would be up to you.. Has been some good advise on this thread, Good Luck on your choice and hope it's the one for your wife also..

Well, I did not get the '08 Ultra. I saw the bike on last Wednesday, the dealer did not get back with me Thursday so I called Friday. While I was talking to the salesman, a buyer was loading it on a trailer.
BUT, this was a good thing. My wife prefers I get a new one and she likes the red which my local dealer has with the ABS/security package. We're going up this afternoon to look at it and talk to the salesman.
The tradeoff, is that I have to buy her new living room furniture. A tradeoff I can easily accept.
