RE: Street Glide Rear Fender on a Road King Custom
This is from a post on this same subject from 4/15/06 based on my experience in doing the FLHX rear fender on my '04 EG. As mentioned in the post, get copies of pages 112-114 of the Touring model parts book for 2006 and you will have pictures of the parts and the part numbers.
Also, the u-shaped bracket for the LED and filler between the fender and sadllebags is no longer a VIN restricted part as it was when I bought mine.
Okay, the cost for the FLHX rear fender treatment is $331.52, including shipping AND an FLHX fender. Remove the cost of the fender ($171.41) and the parts cost, including shipping is $160.11.
The body part that is U-shaped and fits on the rear fender is identified as "Ground Effects" at page 113 of the 2006 parts catalog for Touring bikes. This is a painted part; mine came in **** since the VIN-number, required for the dealer to order the part, identified the genuine FLHX bike as being ***** in color.
So, unless you have a bike matching an existing FLHX color, you will probably have to order some paint; I ordered a quart of Birch White plus the 8 oz of Activator, so that added another $100 to the cost.
All of these part numbers are from the 2006 Parts book for touring models, pages 112 and 113. The prices are what I paid using a highly regarded HD dealer widely acclaimed for their good prices and excellent service on this and other HD forums. I will not mention them by name:
SG facia ("Ground Effects"), price $63.64 part no. 59739-06(followed by a color code: BXT (cobalt blue), BPY (black pearl), BPS (black cherry) and DH (vivid black); or 59739-06 primered, price $56.00 list;
Rear Fender Light Assembly, 69375-06, price $49.34;
[EDIT: Instead of this light assembly that is a running light only, you can use a newer version introduced in '07 that is a running light and brake light, HD part no. 68358-07, list price $89.95.]
Stud Plate, part no. 59818-06, price each $5.95 (requires 2);
Ground Effects Support, part no. 59790-06, price $5.40;
Bumper, part no. 59581-05, price $2.73;
Screw, part 3596, price $.72 (2)
Flange nut, part 7499, price $1.16 (6);
Grommet, part no. 59778-06, price $1.25 ea.(2) Use these if you aregoing to install the HD two-up detachable tour pack rack mounting hardware;
Plug, part no. 59746-06 price $1.25 ea. (2) Use these if you are not mounting the two-up detachable rack mounting hardware. The stockSG uses one of these in the right filler strip, and one grommet in the left for the antenna.
If your Touring bike has a rubber bumper, you will need to order "Bracket," part no. 91140-04, as this part is what connects the saddlebag support brackets to the fender. If you look at a Road Glide, RK Custom or FLHX you will see this bracket and how it takes the place of the bumper bracket on the other EGs and RKs.
[EDIT 1/28/08--If you are installing this on an Electra Glide or Road Glide, the LED wiringhas a plug that is intended to connect to your tour pak wiring harness--this is how the Street Glide LED is wired. If you are installing this on a Road King, you won't have the TP plug. To retain the Tour Pak wiring harness for the Tour Pak, and to wire the LED for those installing this on a Road King, there is a simple solution.Use the upper left chamber in the tail light housing (where your turn signals, brake light, etc. plug into a circuit board located behind the tail light lens.) To do this, you need to remove the plug/connector from the LED, and replace it with HD PN 73153-96BK (this connector will plug into the upper left chamber of thetail light circuit board), and use wire terminals PN 73191-96 (these attach to the ends of the wires and are inserted into the connector, PN 73153-96. Theseterminals are cheap so buy one or two ext
