Default Street Glide rear shock change to RG or UG shocks?

Anyone change their stock SG shocks to the longer (13") rear shocks from a RG or UG? Looking for feedback on the ride improvement when riding 2-up.

Granted I could get rid of the air lines and go aftermarket but that is nearly 4x the price over take-offs.

Oddly, that Cycle World article states the RG has only 2" of rear suspension travel. I would think that would be the case on the SG, but not the RG. Anyone?

The Road Glide custom FLTRX and SG have the same shock. If you go to the 13" shock from the Electra Glide, you will have a better ride, and you may also want to change the oil in the shocks for an even better ride, much cheaper, but still not as good as some aftermarket, but it should keep you happy.

I have an EG Classic, I use SG shocks in town and in-State.

swap back to the stock 13" for touring ( takes 30 minutes if that)- I want the floaty cadillac ride, and the extra weight of the tour pak and luggage rides smoother with the extra travel of the 13

quick and easy- good results and a cost saver.

If you have lowered your front end, you should NOT raise the rear- if forks are untouched, go ahead.

Hell yeah I did!!!! I went ahead and changed from the stock air shocks over to the "Progressive 940 series shocks" on my 2009 RG. All I could say is that at any given time I am able to adjust the shocks to what ever stiffness pressure I want on the shocks and I don't have to worry about bringing a air pump on those long trips. I feel great about the purchase and my back loves it too especially on those long rides.

I'm showing the following:

Part number:

54565-09 RG/EG - standard height

54662-09 SG - lowered height

Correct, that's the standard RG, discontinued in 2009, now you have the Custom, Ultra, or CVO, the Ultra uses the 13", Custom 12", and CVO uses premium shocks, not sure but I believe the 12" model, they come in 12 and 13".

Ah ha. There is an ebay item for part # 54565-09 that came off an '11 RG CVO. Now I'm curious, the part number is correct but did the '11 RG CVO really have 12" or 13" shocks? In other words, is there a discrepancy to the listing?

What is that Harley part number link again??

09 and prior have different length shocks. 09 RG is 1" longer

The '11 Cvo came with the 13" shock, the "11 RG classic came with a 12" shock.

I bought a set of new 13" (standard length) E-glide factory shocks on eBay then sold my short SG shocks on eBay for about $25 more than I paid for the longer shocks. Made a profit plus a MUCH better ride.
