Haven't checked for tranny oil, but i think they would have found that when they rebuilt the clutch saturday, unless they didn't put any back in.

Transmission and clutch are seperate systems as far as oiling, but I'm sure they probably checked it anyhow.....

I'm surprised you didn't smell that thing burning out so fast. Going that fast, you'd think you would have a trail of smoke behind you.

I wonder if the put any primary fluid back in it? Still wouldn't burn up that fast I'd think.

No smoke. Only a slight smell. I figured it'd be a lot more noticeable than that too.

The comfort I would take from this would be that such a catastrophic failure will not occur (especially twice) without a very clear root cause - i.e. once they find out exactly what is at fault there will be no way of "fudging" it.

I would be absolutely amazed if this was down to poor riding, as intimated by CSI above

(Quote) Long story short, the mechanic found that the clutch was completely burnt up and they basically just blamed it on me and told me I didn't know how to ride. They did a courtesy replacement of the clutch basket, plates, etc. If that would've been the end of it, fine, but it wasn't. (Quote)

I have to suspect there is more to this story than what is being shared. Doesnt sound like the typical dealer response and if they blamed you not sure why they would do a "courtesy" replacement.
Obviously something very serious is going on in that motor or.....you dont know how to drive (just kidding).....who is the Dealer? Would sure want to steer clear of them!

That's the whole story. Everything's been fine until the other day. I was suspicious when they did the Courtesy replacement myself. It's been my experience, until Saturday that is, Harley doesn't courtesy anything they could get money for.

It's under warranty so bring it back as many times as it takes to fix it and tell them to kiss ur a$$ if they think you did it.

Yes, but they consider the clutch to be a wear and tear part, therefore, not covered under Harley's warranty. I'll still tell them to kiss it though.
