No need in this case. The 255s have a very low TDC lift, and with the stock valves, there's plenty of clearance. Lots of bikes running around with these cams and the .030 head gasket where the assembler wasn't even thinking about checking clearances. You generally won't run into problems with lower lift cams unless you're running big valves.

If you do clay your valves, you're looking for around .060 clearance on the intake and .080 on the exhaust side. Some guys will run a little tighter, but I don't think there's any good reason to.

I might be mistaken, but when I talked to jamie about the gasket (months ago), I THINK he said "put it on and go"......I dont remember much talk if any about any monkey-ing around with checking clearences, or playing with silly puddy.

Got to ride the bike without the Tour Pack.......gotta love it!!

Looking forward to the 255's. Been reading a ton. Hope I like them as much as my 555s and TW6s I had in my 2010 Ultra.

While we're talkin' gaskets (.030).....is there any downside to the .030 with my set-up?.......

Only if your pistons are sticking out of the holes. The idea with using .030 gaskets is to try and set your "squish" to 030, which optimizes fuel "swirl" and reduces chances of detonation or pinging. Any where between .030 and .035 is good. Chances are the pistons are anywhere between .0015 and .007 down in the hole. Cometic also makes .027 gaskets that can help get to .030 if the pistons are more than .003-.004 in the hole.
