So it was the first nice day since I bought my Street Glide, so I took it to the dealer to fix a squeaky fender strut cover, then I went on a little cruise....I stopped my my brother's house to show him the new ride. I tried to turn around in his drive way and the handle bars went all of the way to the right and I almost lost it! I think I used every muscle on the left side of my body to stop it....I'm gonna feel it tomorrow, but atleast it didn't go over with 40 miles on it! Its different then manuvering my old Deluxe!
Yeah the weight takes a bit of getting used to; prior to owning various baggers I had a Softail (Nightrain) and it felt like a Sport Bike compared to the bagger.
Weight is really not an issue, technique is. Get the DVD "Ride Like A Pro" and learn and pratice the "friction zone". Your problems with slow riding will be over.
I went from a 380 lb. triumph to an 800 lb. 07 road king. Took about a month before I was tossing it around in the curves comfortably. I'm 64 yrs. old. You'll get used to it. I'm 6'1" and 180 lbs.
I just upgraded to a street glide from a wide glide and I had the same issues.
I was able to take the MSF advanced rider course using the street glide and I feel much better on it now.
I bought my first FLHTCUI this year. Riders Edge Skilled Rider's Course helped me learn proper braking, low speed maneuvers, braking in curves. If you take it at a Harley dealer it is only one day.
Be careful with panic braking, really easy to lock up the rear brakes. Scared the crap out of myself til I learned how to ease the rear on and use the front mostly.
Be Careful. I have 7400 miles on my bike this summer, and now I am starting to feel comfortable. Love it.
