Welcome to the Glide Nation Nicky Pass
Good news is that when I first starting riding again since 1980 I too found that my Glide felt heavy and needed forethought before any maneuver. I began making sure of my movements before I had to make them, ensuring that if I didn’t feel right then I would make sure that I put her in a safe position until I was ready to deal with it. I have learned that if you practice before it will get easier when needed to do something. Also I have found that proper inflation of the tires WILL make a great difference in handling in tight situations. Learn how to balance when you get her in a bind, as well as using braking to stop movement until your ready to move forward.
I started riding again in May of 09 and trust me if you put these to test you will see it does get better.

Yeah me too, took me about 300 miles to get used to the weight. lost my footing with it and had to set it down real gentle during the first 100 miles, don't lock the steering in any one direction on uneven surfaces......you too could end up in an Oh **** scenario.
