That has changed quite a bit since I last rented one (about 6 yrs ago) I got a fatboy for 2 days for $89.00, it was a web special that I pre booked. They did suggest their insurance which was $50 (I paid for that because they tell you scary stories about people that didn't buy it), but it was not required, and it was a $1000 hold on a credit card. I rented the bike from the dealeship in West Palm Beach, took a great ride to Key West, Back the next day.

Hmmm...well
I'm staying with family for the week in the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area. I went to the local HD shop and they wanted 122-143 a day to rent a bike and a $2000 deposit on a CC.
Does this sound right? I would really like to be able to ride a little while in this beautiful part of the country. Thanks.

The rates are strongly dependent on the area. At my local dealer here in NC the standard rate is $99 / day. However, you get a break if you rent for a longer period.
When I rented a Street Glide recently for my trip out west I rented it for two weeks and it was $75 / day with unlimited mileage. The security deposit was $1500 but I don't think they ever charged that to my card. The just kept my card number on file just in case.

Yeah, I've rented twice. Once on a trip to L.A. for two days, and once in Vegas for a day. Vegas HD was waaaaaay more expensive than any other dealer I've been to. Vegas gets about $180 plus taxes and fees per day for an Ultra......expensive, but considering how much I'd waste at a roulette table in that same 9 hour period, I figured it was a bargain. While in L.A., I rented from Glendale HD, and they only charged about $210 for two days. Glendale offered a HOG discount that was big enough to actually pay for my membership renewal, Vegas HD offered no such discount. Next time I rent in Vegas, I'll go to Henderson to rent a bike, as their prices are much better, and they offer HOG discounts.

Bike rentals are the biggest rip off!!! I have considered it a couple of times but never have because of the money.
Lets see, you let me rent a used bike worth maybe $15k for $140+ a day, but a car dealer will let me rent a $60k vehicle for less than half of that? It makes no sense other than another demonstration of a HD dealers greed.
And you know what the insurance is a scam too -- Their insurance already covers them if you wreck the car/bike. They sell you a policy to make extra $$, plus, usually your own insurance you have will also cover you when you are borrowing another's vehicle.
