Default Why can I not get the correct p/n for brake pads?

I went to HD and checked on getting better brake pads for my 2011 RKC than stock pads. The parts told me he can order any brand. The HD brand pads have different p/n front 41854-08 back p/n 4185-08A. But when I contacted JP cycle they said they are the same for the front and back. So when I recieved them all three sets were for the front. I contacted JP they sent me ones for a older RKC without ABS. But they told me they are the same p/n for the front and back. I contact EBC brakes they also said the front and back are the same pads. But I know this is not true. So do I have to get HD pads I would like better than stock pads? Does anybody have the correct p/n for Firehawk,EBC?

I know they changed the brake calipers in 08 to the brembo and on my 08 they are all the same front and back I have abs. I think they are all the same 08 to current no change. I use the Lyndall Z +and would highly recommend them over the HD units. Less brake dust, no squeak and long long life.

The size and shape are the front and rear pads are the same. The factory uses slightly different friction material for the front and rear pads, hence the different part numbers. You will notice a bit of a difference using aftermarket pads. All of the aftermarket suppliers use different formulas for their friction material. Just pick a manufacturer and follow their suggestion based on your riding style.

if you google the 2011_model_year_technical_forum.pdf

page 68 shows the 2011 changed H-D pads, changed material, more surface area. that may be the "A" revision.

as for pads, I have had more than satisfactory results with stock pads on most of my bikes- I do have EBC pads on my FXR

simplistically:
hard pads last a long time, but can be noisy ( this can be solved by chamfering the pads, and applying quieting material where needed)

soft pads don't last long, but are quiet & dusty

Most pads do a great job stopping the bike- the only real difference is resistance to overheating if applied for long periods

for online parts microfiche go to this link, part numbers are shown in the cart:
