Default Grey Beards and Electra Glides...

I was on an 8 hour ride with some friends today and during a lunch break I mentioned that my next bike will be an Ultra Classic Electra Glide. One of the gals in the group said that I was "too young" to ride "one of those". I laughed at the comment and asked her how old you had to be to ride one? She said to wait until I'm 60 and have a grey beard! Well, I'm 45 years old and would have a grey beard, if I could grow a full one without any bald patches, so maybe I would pass part of the qualification.

My question is, and forgive me for even asking, how old are the riders of Electra Glides on this site? I'd love to prove her wrong, as I don't believe you have to be any particular age to ride one. I think they're awesome bikes, and besides, 60 years of age is still pretty young, in my opinion!

I am 36 and I own an 02 FLSTCI and an 05 FLHTCI. I love my softail, but I bought the Electra Glide because the wife and I love to take long trips. I had the idea in my head that I would use the softail for just cruizin around and the Eltectra Glide for the long runs. The Glide rides so nice and handles awesome I don't want to ride anything else. The softail will be up for sale really soon!

I've been riding Electra Glides since I was 22 and yes always caught the $hit about it. But let's face it, you guys that ride them all know that on the road we can make those people eat their own words when they see how well they preform. Not to mention how, on the long rides, we don't have to limp and groan when we get off of the bike!

In three days I will be 60 years young and I like my 2005 EG because it is as fast as the Super Glide and I can carry anything I want. I have a Garmin Quest GPS and it is great. I was in Indiana and only had a Michigan map and I was in an unknown area and wanted to go to the Harley dealer and knew the address so I used the quest to talk over the speakers to tell me where to go.

Yes, I have a grey beard.

The only thing I can say is get one while you are young and you can enjoy it for a lot longer time than I can.

Got my first Electra 29 years ago and was in my 30's then. You are just the age age to get yours. So, get busy and get it!

I'm 41 and love the Ultra. Took her in for the 1k last week and the dealer gave us an 05 Softail Deluxe to go ride while they worked on our bike. Cool bike for riding orund town, but after an hour and some highway riding my wife said she had enough and could we please go back.

I started off on smaller bikes then 250 Zundapp, 305 Honda then my 1971 Harley Super Glide. I was off bikes for about 25 years and bought a 2004 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Silverado and put 12,000 miles on it in one year. Sold the Yamaha and got the EG.

The Super Glide was much different in 1971 it was the FLH (Electra Glide) frame and engine with the XLH (Sportster) front end, pegs instead of footboards.
