Grey Beards and Electra Glides...

Why Texas? I realize Texans think "why in Texas" from everything the rest of us do too.
I think lot more young folks on baggers now. Maybe for the music. Most of the bike at the bar have a fairing, most electra glides. Used prices dropping might have also helped. Around here, if you want to ride more, you want a fairing. Though I know some hold outs.

As far as younger guys on baggers, also true. A lot of that has to do with a lot of the performance parts available for them. For me, I didn't have to choose big slow geezer glide with the parts I have have in the bike, I have a sport bike I can ride cross country and enjoy everywhere. 10 years ago, or in the case of this thread, 19 years ago, that wasn't really an option. The race tech has trickled down and the King of the Bagger races has really opened up the flood of tech coming to the bigger bikes.
For me, being in my 30's when I got my first bagger, it was a no brainer. Buy it and build it to do everything. Couldn't be more happy.

I dunno if it is a speed thing. I think music, and comfort. Plus maybe the used market prices dropped. In this part of the country you have cold nights and mornings, around here I would say 3/4s or so of harleys have fairings
Myself, I wanted more storage, cause it means more time on a bike, more protection, cause it means more time on a bike.
I don't know what it is like in hot parts of the country.

I love riding my Electra glide with my wife. Modified rear and front suspension, upgraded motor, etc. Rides fantastic, power is 120/114. More than enough to keep up with traffic and most others. I’m not in it for the speed, just cruising. However, there’s enough power to get you out of trouble quick.
Gray beard and silver hair, I guess I qualify.

Music is in my helmet. Cardo. Comfort, in my 30's, nothing hurt so it wasn't a consideration. They're still more expensive than Softails and Dynas. Those reason I shared were the reasons I bought one and the guys my age bought them. The reasons you give here are much more practical reasons, but not something I considered in my 30's.
Actually I came to harley after wrecking, figured I get a slow bike. Though i always wanted American made.
