Default Longer k&n oil filtor kn-173c ?

I AM CURENTLY USING the K&N 171C OIL FILTOR .
i know a guy who uses longer K&N 173c filtor on his 96 twin cam .
is this ok ?
because kn site says its for older evos

I dont think so m8. The bypass valve release pressure is I suspect lower which may cause oil to bypass the filter more often, and you would be surprised how often this is likely to happen anyway. I also think it is a larger filter medium so wont do such a good job as the one designed for the twincam. I could of course be wrong but I would suggest if you mail K&N they will give you your answer.

For starters, twin cams use 10 micron filters. As far as a bigger filter goes, If the bike needed one, HD engineers would have seen fit to put one on it from the factory. I'd stick with what the manual calls for. Oil and filters are cheap in comparison to an engine.
