Default Stripped allen head Help.....

I am taking my lower froks off to chrome / Powedrcoat.
I am having trouble with one on the 6mm bolts at the bottom of one of the legs. The 6mm allen head is stripped. The head itself. I cant get that bolt out.
What do I do? (Easyouts?)

you may have to drill it out. These can help you if that the route you end up going. I've been there before and now have a screw extractor in my tool box.

6mm,try pounding in the next bigger standard size, if it doesnt work, next cut a slot in the head with dremel or sharp chisel then use a handheld impact driver(the kind u hit with a hammer)if that fails.. youl be drilling.

Put some epoxy in the head, put the torx bit in and wait for it to set up.

If you can. Put a slot in the head of the Allen bolt, like a flat head screw. It should come right. It worked for me

Guy's...this is in the bottom of the Fork Leg......there is no way to cut a slot into it.

I would do what has already been said.......get a good quality Torx Bit and drive it in there. Have a friend hold the leg while you wrench it out. I have done this and it works.

You can drill it as well. Just use a bit that is just slightly larger that the head of the bolt. Go slowly as once you get the head drilled off it will come off and then you can pull the leg apart. Once it is apart you will see what is left of the bolt (it will look like a stud) and then you can easily remove that from the Dampner with a Vise and Vise Grips.

Those grabbits or whatever they are called are really great. Had the same problem rebuilding my forks except the damn thing just kept spinning. Really sucked.

Good luck, let us know how it comes out (no pun).

Drive the torx bit in and then use a handheld impact driver (the one you whack with a hammer). Baddah-boom, baddah-bing. I even use an impact with light whacks on those buttery factory float bowl screws so I don't strip them.
