They were very desirable before 2012 when all touring bikes came standard w/ 96s.

Kansas City buys theirs, has a factory and MMI trained mechanic. He tells me the worst is when the motor cops go to school, they really hammer them there. He maintains them under stringent rules, all stock parts. The only thing about them is miles,a lot.He also told me the ones being auctioned are still good motorcycles even with 75 to 90,000 on them, very low to no oil use,no tranny probs on 08 up,07 had mainshaft spalling on 2 out 18 otherwise all good.I've bought cop bikes for close to 40 yrs, about 6 out of 20 needed something but nothing major,I'm riding one now.Its a blank canvas, get one, ride it and, decide what you want out of it.

Actually, the $1 lease went on for years through the dealers. It was a good way for them to get bikes over their quota because police bikes do not count against their quota. This was a win/win when the dealers couldn't keep bikes on the floor. Now a lease will go for $2,000 to $2,500 a year.

You should ask your good buddy in law enforcement if he can find out the history on them for you If your interested. Then decide on what they would be worth to you. They are a value an can be bought for less than civilian models.

I bought my Road King off of lease return from Destination Daytona. It was a two year old bike with 24,000 miles. I have had no trouble at all with the bike. My boss at work bought a Road King a few years ago at the Orlando City auction. He has had the bike for several years, and again no problems. Some departments lease and some buy. Either way you can get a good bike, you just need to keep your eyes open and check it out closely. I think its a great way to get a great bike at a good price.

I agree. I bought mine with low miles and started the modifications from there. It has been a great bike. Would of been great if I left it alone as well. I have the service records from mile #1 from the dealership that serviced it. They are a great buy for a blank canvas. Make sure you give it a good look and go for it.

Each bike is different. I have seen police bikes that I would buy and others that the only way I would take them is if you gave them to me. Some departments turn them in with very few miles on them. I saw an 07 the other day with 4800 miles on it. My 08 has 33,xxx.

One of the guys that I work with owns a 2008 white on black Road King police bike. It came with a 103" 6-speed with all the maintenance receipts. It runs without a single issue and he has been riding it for over a year already.

I picked up a vivid black 09 FLHP with 882 miles on it last August for $14K from Cement City HD. Carson City HD warranty replaced front tire when I had the 5K service on my way to Sturgis. No regrets at all.
