Police Auction/Road Kings?

Kansas City buys theirs, has a factory and MMI trained mechanic. He tells me the worst is when the motor cops go to school, they really hammer them there. He maintains them under stringent rules, all stock parts. The only thing about them is miles,a lot.He also told me the ones being auctioned are still good motorcycles even with 75 to 90,000 on them, very low to no oil use,no tranny probs on 08 up,07 had mainshaft spalling on 2 out 18 otherwise all good.I've bought cop bikes for close to 40 yrs, about 6 out of 20 needed something but nothing major,I'm riding one now.Its a blank canvas, get one, ride it and, decide what you want out of it.

There is no way they are getting them for $1/year on a lease. A) H-D is in the business of making money, not providing charity to LE. B) You sometimes see officers riding either Goldwings, or in the case of one of the local departments in central Ohio, BMW's. There is no way the city counsel would sign off on buying/leasing one of those when they can essentially get a H-D for free.

I bought my Road King off of lease return from Destination Daytona. It was a two year old bike with 24,000 miles. I have had no trouble at all with the bike. My boss at work bought a Road King a few years ago at the Orlando City auction. He has had the bike for several years, and again no problems. Some departments lease and some buy. Either way you can get a good bike, you just need to keep your eyes open and check it out closely. I think its a great way to get a great bike at a good price.

I agree. I bought mine with low miles and started the modifications from there. It has been a great bike. Would of been great if I left it alone as well. I have the service records from mile #1 from the dealership that serviced it. They are a great buy for a blank canvas. Make sure you give it a good look and go for it.
