Default Loose muffler clamp

I put on a set of Jackpots last year, and for some reason I am continually having one (right side) muffler clamp loose up. Anybody have any experience with this? Suggestions? 60 ft\lbs is what it should be torqued to. Should I try some loctite? Get a new clamp?

Yeah, you should get a new clamp. Did you ever replace the original one when first putting them on? Whenever you loosen the clamp and remove the exhaust, you should buy a new clamp. Sucks, but the heat causes them to not stay tight after opening them back up. Father-in-law learned the hard way. His clamp that he reused gave way while riding and his muffler dropped and was dragging down the road.

+1 on the new clamp. I had a new exhaust on for about three days and noticed a some chrome chipping off the end of the pipe. When I took it back to the dealership to have the exhaust replaced the tech in the speed shop said he would be replacing both of them along with new clamps. He was pretty fresh out of MMI and he told me they were taught that the clamps are a one time use. Even for the short time they were on my bike he said new ones should be used.

Some people here say you should be able to reuse the clamp IMO and now fresh out of an MMI Grads mouth, they are a 1 time use clamp.

Hope this helps.

I have had good luck re-using mine. I do however wire wheel the threads, coat with anti-sieze and then torque them down.

Thanks guys... I will run to the shop and get some new clamps. Do you suggest any blue loctite when installing the new clamps, or just new clamps on and torque to 60 ft\lbs?

You can also use an additional or new self locking nut on the bolts if you desire.

Locktite doesn't hurt, but in my experience new clamps properly torqued have worked for me.

yeah, for so cheap holding on a few hundred dollar muffler seems like a good investment lol. Also, locktite never hurts. I pretty much use it on everything.

Also make sure that the clamp is on the split part of the slip-on and not run up to the solid portion of the pipe
