2004 FLHTP Major Face Lift
Hello all,
I have been a member here for a little while and just joined the FLH family. I just purchased the bike yesterday and will begin to tear it down within the next few weeks for a big face lift. I am new to modifying a bagger, but not new to modifying motorcycles. Some of you may have seen my other bike. If not, you will now. Please do tell about any websites or info on where I can find/buy any of the parts listed below. As well as personal experiences with anything I plan to do. Thanks and hope you enjoy
Current plans:
Stretched bags/new rear fender
New front fender
Stereo installation with amp
10'' Ape Hangers (Do I need to build a installation kit for this small of a handle bar? Or just get a new brake line?)
Fairing mount mirrors
Wheels and tires
New seat
Slammer kit
Removal of all police associated buttons
New grips
And of course some fresh paint
I am leaving out all the little things and probably forgetting about a few major things that will be done. As well as probably doing more than originally anticipated, I tend to do that quite often.

Thats a cool looking Sportster you have there. Only thing I can add is go to Biketronics.com for all your stereo needs. They have it covered with good prices and extremely good service.
If you are wanting to drop the back end of your bike, go to Bitchinbaggers.com and they can lower your existing rear shocks without the tire rubbing the fender.

Bad dad makes quality fenders and bags. I used demons cycle for a $99 front fender, Wheels are all over the net and ebay. I got a set of PM wheels off ebay for 799. Deals are out there you just have to shop. You can put air ride on the back for less than $200. +1 on biketronics. I have a set of extended bags i'll sell you. Cyclesmith makes great bars 13" apes.

If you don't have them, the HD 2004 Touring service manual and police supplement are like bibles to me in the 5+ years I've owned and transformed my '04 police model EG.
Another non-sexy purchase is the '04 EG civilian interconnect harness to replace the police model interconnect harness. It's a stratightforward swap and makes anything electrical you are adding the same as a civlian model; e.g. radio with handlebar controls, oil pressure gauge, cruise control, etc. I did all of these modding the police interconnect harness initially and it worked well, but had I known at the start that I'd add all of those items, it would have saved me many hours of studying wiring diagrams, running wires, crimping pins and sockets, assembling connectors, etc. to have simply swapped the harnesses which I did two years ago when the bike was disassembled and repainted.

Cool Sporty. Looking forward to what you do with the bagger!
When you install the apes make sure you get a ONE PIECE top clamp for the handlebars. There was a bulletin on it many years ago.
The stress from the leverage of the apes can break the handlebars in the center if you use the two piece top clamps that are stock. (don't ask me how I know)

Both these bikes have cyclesmith 13s. They're not as tall as they look. I'm 6' and they are perfect for me.
Been on the bad dad website multiple times, I will check out demon cycles. Not sure which route I want to go with wheels yet. I have to figure out the right size bar for me, I want the bars to sit at the about fairing height. Thanks for the input, I actually just placed my first order for a part. Ordered the stereo install kit from biketronics. PM sent on them bags
I plan on picking up the service manual, im a sucker for punishment so I will probably just modify the existing wiring harness. I am going to be spending lots of money on the bike this winter, so I will be saving where I can. Even though wiring is the least fun when it comes to building anything. Not sure if I will even end up adding the extra gauges, ill cross that bridge when I get there. Thanks for the input
