Looking to convert my 2002 RKC to a vintage look with bags, fishtail exhaust and nice set of 21,18 tires
I am torn between Wild one cubby beach bars and a tall set of apes.
Does anyone have a pic of how this all will look?
Who sells a fishtail slip-on that is extended a little past rear of bike?
Who sells a nice priced good quality wheel combo?
Looking for nice vintage solo seat.
thanks for input

a "vintage look" depends on how far you want to take it.

from my perspective anything later than 84.5 won't do--- the old shovel FLH frame is perfect for that, and authentic, as could be a panhead, but the pans are a shorter wheelbase.

the evo softail heritage is pretty good though, in general proprtion

the later touring frames are just too big and bulky, and the front end geometry is wrong-- the nacelle too big ( to hide the frame gooseneck) etc.

so it kinda comes back on what you expect to see as a classic, vintage look.

it'll be to your individual taste, not others as their definition and expectations of classic may be different.

If you are stuck with the touring frame, i suggest you start go through mags ( post 1999 with the twin cam) and seeing what look works for you ( and what doesn't)--- always guys unloading stacks of old mags on craigslist and alot of them will have build sheets for the feature bikes

Vance and Hines and Samson are where you want to look for fishtails. The samsons have several length options for you. I believe 28" to 39". The 33"ers are just past the bags. their website has pics, and you will get a feel for how far back you want your tails extended.

I want fishy's for my EGC, and have been looking at both of these. Still not sure what route to go, but I have seen and heard the V&H and like them a lot.

EDIT:

I found phat performance has the best price on both fishtails. DR V-twinn, a forum sponsor, also sells them and has a lot of experience with the fishtails (he prefers Samson). Bub is another option, but I have heard the quality of their chrome is not so good.

I guess I need to be a little more specific
I want old school look with modern bike with traits and characteristics I like.
I think the hardest problem is getting rid of bag supports and to attach exhaust.
I like tricked out slammed deluxe but I am way to big for a soft tail
I figure my RKC has potential
Thats why I asked for some help.

I'm going the same way I guess......
Got my sundowner solo.....got my chrome piece that wraps around the back of the solo.

Getting the leather fender chap/bib from Chilowee.

I have Supertrapp Elite slip-ons and they can have fishtails endcaps....I am fixin to get the endcaps from Fuelmoto. (the supertrapps sound great!!)

I have the RK II beach bars....forget what brand....it was a common one.....but they are not fattys.

I don't think the apehangers are the classic look....more like gang/outlaw look to me.

I also want to get the gold winged visors for headlamp and passing lamps....and some lever fringes....red and black to match my bike.

I will post before/after pics in the RK Classics forum section when I'm done. .....check that section out for some ideas....

BTW....I love the big fat classic lookin whitewalls.....ain't changin the wheels.

I am trying to go with the old look with modern eminities also. I installed black rims, WO508 bars, I just added wider tires 160 in the rear, 150 up front. I have 2 into 1 exhaust that may need to be replaced, and currently running Bare Bones LePera seat. I will try to get a up to date pic later today.

The bike is a 2007 police Road King. I'm running early 2000 laced wheels that I took apart and had the hubs and rims powder coated black, enlarged the hole thru the rear hub to accept a 1" axle, then relaced and trued them. The rims are 3", I know the recommended size is 3.5" for 150 Dunlop E3 up front and 160 Dunlop E3 in the rear.
