I run the Lucas synthetic oil additive and it does a nice job of quieting the motor, however if your lifters are shot, you'll live with the noise or replace them.

 

that is the second time I have been told it is a good product. If the dealer will do nothing about the problem I will try the additive. Thanks

 

I thought I would give the members an update on the clacking problem. I took it into the dealership and explained the sound to them. They took my bike in and called back to say that they were replacing the lifters and all parts that go along with the repair gaskets, lifters, orings etc. Picked it up and rode it home and was pleased with the sound. Seems to be like when I first purchased it. My dealer treated me really well.

 

I'm glad you're up and running normal again. What contributed to the failure, do you know? Was it your oil. I have always used Amsoil, so that scares me a little.

 

you can also turn your ignition through 3 cycles and your ECM will learn the the new throttle position you teach it from there.

 

TheDon81 nailed it. Minus the terminology. Lifters do not inflate and deflate. They pump-up and bleed-down.

Your description of the problem is the classic symptom of a lifter that is bleeding down too fast.
