1. What brand and model did you install?
Sony
2. How long has it been mounted and working?
Installed in late 05 and has been on the bike for over 85,000 miles.
3. How have you liked the function and performance?
Yes
4. Have you had any issues?
No
5. Which brand mounting kit did you use?
Biketronics
6. What if anything would you do differently if you had to do it all over (radio only)?
Nothing.

Radio is a basic one and the model means nothing since it's long out of production. I bought the kit from Biketronics and the speakers from Hogtunes. Two years ago I added a satellite radio unit that lives inside the fairing with the antenna the only visible evidence that I have it.
If I were to do it all over again, I would do the same thing.

Riding with friends,

JIMSFBL;

I like your set up. How often do you use a splashguard, if ever? I'm just paranoid of a non marine reciever taking a poop on me.

Don't worry about marine grade. All that means is the pc board is epoxy coated to resist salt corrosion. They will still short out if water gets inside and they are not warrantied for that.

Just get what you want (way more choices if you stay away from marine grade) and use the Biketronics splash guard.

I have the basic Biketronics kit with a Sony CDX-GT550UI radio and Hogtunes speakers. http://www.biketronics.com/products/...2dPresent.html

I have had it a couple months and works great, even at speed with louder than stock pipes. This radio, even though the basic model, has 5 tuner bands (FM1, 2, 3 and AM1, 2), CD, USB and AUX port for an MP3 or IPod. Works excellent with the stock hand controls. It comes with an internal antennae, basically just a wire, but I added a little better internal antennae and have very good reception. The front face of the radio easily detaches. Only drawback is it is not waterproof so Biketronics gives you a clear plastic shield to push on over the radio for rain or washing.

Only problem I had was not a radio fault but bike fault. I washed the bike one time and then could not get some of the controls to work. I thought I might have got water in the radio but what occurred was there was a pinched wire in the right grip housing which when it got wet caused the problem. Took the grip housing apart and moved the wires and everything was fine. Biketronics told me to do this when I called them and they were exactly correct. They have outstanding service. The kit was very easy to put in also.

Antennea, left Hogtunes speaker and Biketronics plug in adaptor to allow the radio to work with the stock H-D controls.

Radio and adapter mounted in bike.

3. it's outdtanding...mainly the ipod feature.
4. No problems
5. Biketronics reto kit
6. I would buy the same radio.

I just got a great deal on the Sony DSX-S300BTX. IPOD tray and built in Bluetooth. I chose it because I want the least amount of wires to hook up IPOD and phone. This model not only has Bluetooth for phone, but will also stream Music from my Droid X (Pandora, etc.) without any wire to the head unit. No wires to an IPOD because the IPOD is contained within the head unit.

The deck lists for $279.00 but is available now at Crutchfield for $179.00

I am also getting the new Rockford Fosgate amp from a local dealer for $199.00. I am on the fence about which mounting option to use but I am leaning towards Biketronics so I can retain AVC.

Speakers are going to be Hertx HCX 165's.
