New 402 from indy shop $112.00.

New tube, spoke strip, mount, and balance $35.00.

Tire only from my H-D dealer $196.00

Indy shop must be making money too cause he's been in business over 30 years...

There's one born every minute.

I mount and balance my own wheels and tires. For manual mounting one thing that helps is putting the tire out in the sun and letting it warm up. It's a lot more playable that way.

Balancing is easy with a couple of old jackstands and some skateboard bearings for the axle to ride on.

If you want to make the process even easier Harbor Freight sells a decent combination bead breaker and tire mounting machine cheap. Here's a demo video with an auto tire but it's the same process.

I have been buying my tires from

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/home.do

I found them to have the best internet price out there - free shipping and NO sales tax. My HD is a 20 mile ride drop it off come back later to get it - $40 mounting fee.

What I have been doing is to use a local M/C shop (who I trust) to mount my tires - $23 and its about 1 mile from my house.

I enjoy learning how to R&R both front and rear wheel - I am retired and have the time and I WANT to learn how to do this...

Saves me a little money and it works for me..

Lots of people do not have the time Nor want to learn how to R&R a wheel - for them, go for it... HD loves ya..

Out on the road - thats another deal - bend over and just take it... no real choice.

This next suggestion is not for everyone but it also works for me and I, again - trust it.

http://www.ride-on.com/motorcycle-formula-mot.html

again, I do NOT buy it from the supplyer - I buy it off E-bay - lots of sellers and great prices..

This product has had alot of attention on this forum - do a search and learn and decide for your self \

I will NOT ride without it...

If you owned a restaurant would you prepare food that your customers brought in?

so did you puncture the tire or is it the valve stem or? How many miles on the tires? If I was a dealer I would not mount a tire purchased from somewhere else either. You get a bad tire which does happen and you are going to think it is my fault. If I supply the tire then I can deal with the distributer/ manufacturer etc. I am glad I have the skills to do all my own work. Never had a tire mounted by a dealer in 40 years.

Apparently YOU didn't read HIS post where he said that the price difference DID NOT include mounting or balancing by the dealership....

Maybe you need to slow down and read a little better. It would be more than the $72 price difference....

These online retailers typically make large large purchases for a deeper discount on dealer price.

What tire are you looking at and I can tell you right now if 110$ is higher or lower than your local dealers COST
Well, that may be true in some cases, but I doubt you are selling over MSRP. But how about my local shop that charges 100% OVER MSRP (yeah, that's double MSRP) for some parts??? No wonder Lake Shore and Zanotti's get so much business!

Y'all are gonna booo hissss me for this one but I just got a new e-3 put on the back of my Road King and the HD place wanted $280 installed, decided just to do it myself and called around to find one and the Kawasaki dealer had one for $110.00 bucks. I checked and could not order one any cheaper so rode over to pick it up and the guy said they would installl it for $30.00 bucks. Who am I to argue with that. It was just shy of $150.00 otd and only took em about twenty minutes. I will be back.
