I am 6'3" and 210 lbs and I upgraded from a Softail Custom to the Ultra Classic. I wanted the lowers for the winter and the 4 speaker stereo for the tunes. I have added Vance and Hines Oval Slip-ons and SE Stage I breather and a power commander. I have a set of hogtunes coming. I love the bike and all the bells and whistles. What model of touring bike you decide on is going to be strictly on preference and style that you like. I like the batwing so that is why I went with the Ultra. I have not grown that fond of the fixed fairing of the roadglide yet...(too much like a jet ski) but they say that the roadglide has the best ride at highway speeds of all the touring bikes. I like the black motors too...I am going to put the diamond cut heads and jugs on this winter while I am putting in the 95" Stage II kit. Buying new or used is just a matter of what you want to spend for your bike or what you can afford. Either way, just choose the model that you really want as it's quite an investment to not be happy with.

Good luck in your search....

I'm only 5'8 and I feel cramped on a classic after owning a roadglide. They are both great bikes but with the radio and gauges pushed forward on the roadglide it gives you the feeling of having much more room.

BigTinVa,

I was talking to you, thanks for the reply. The EG Standard does not come standard with chrome covers...and I have been debating for some time as to whether or not I want to go that way. I too like the "blonde" motors...I've seen many of them with all the chrome goodies, sometimes I like it, sometimes not so much. I saw yours and was on the like it side, and I was wondering if you had polished the aluminum up to a super shine or had added chrome...you're saying that it comes standard with the chrome...I would like to see close up shots of the engine if you have the time and patience.

Thanks,

Mac

I am 36 years old and just bought a fuel injected Standard and am very happy with it. The bike has the black cherry pearl paint and added the chrome engine kit and the profile laced wheels. These two things help brighten up the bike with the dark paint. I will put a radio on in the near future and will use Hog Tune speakers and receiver and wiring from Biketronics. The Biketronics wiring allow the stock wiring harness for the handlebar controls to work with a Sony receiver without splicing into any wires. The Standards come with speakers and handlebar controls, but the Hog Tune speakers are supposed to make night and day difference over the stock speakers. You can buy the receiver and wiring from Biketronics for about 1/2 of what the HD receiver will cost.
