Belt v Chain

Belt v Chain
Hi, I was just reading the Transmission/clutch and primary related section, and was interested in the topic 'Belt and pulley service/ replacement time'. What are your veiws to changing to a chain setup when the time comes. I have always prefered chains, and if it's not considered a stupid thing to do...I would like to do this to my RKC when the time comes. Also who sells a conversion kit for this.
Brian.

RE: Belt v Chain
Zippers, Drag speacialties and several others sell conversion kits.
I like chains and sprockets. A Chain with a TSI rating of 10k or higher that also is an O-ring chain is a damn good investment. I like the fact that the swingarm doesn't have to come off to replace the chain and that they are much more tolerant of misalignement, dirt, gravel and abuse compared to a Belt. I don't like the fact that the sprockets will wear out in 25k and that the entire primary needs to be removed to replace the front sprocket. It's all about tradeoffs and what you want.
If the day comes that my belt breaks, instead of spending the coin to replace the belt and both pullys, I'll convert to chain. Mostly so I won't have to sweat it when riding on gravel roads...
