I ride it once and sometimes twice a year for a long time now. I have to say the most fun was riding a 250 Vespa. I guess my fastest run was on a 650 thumper. I was there when a tractor trailer had it's trailer wheels go over the side and jack-knifed the rig. Then the tow truck cable cut the box in half and the road was closed for three days.

Yeah this **** happens. Harley's are slow. Don't ride it on weekends or holidays. Stay to your right, don't go anywhere near the center line. I've seen cars, bikes, trucks and even boats taking up half my lane.

Rode the Dragon on Saturday. No problems with trucks. No problem with sport bikes.

Big problem with old, fat couples on Gold Wing Trikes (& others) without the skill-set necessary to ride with training wheels that created the problems this weekend. Had to pull over and wait, just to let them get ahead of us. I'm a not-old, in reasonable shape, 50; so it's about skill & confidence - not years.

It is the slow incompetents in front of you, not the skilled behind you, that you need to worry about.

I do agree that the Cherahola Skyway is the bomb. Long sweeping curves, great views, and room to pass Gold Wings when necessary!

Stay alert and be safe!

The trucks can be a problem. However, if an 18-wheeler starts into the Dragon, one of the many locals that ride it several times everyday will escort the truck, and warn riders.

I ride the Dragon many times each year.

Deals Gap and Tail of the Dragon are one and the same.

Rode it last year between 2 trucks. They both got hung up on different curves and could not continue. The cool thing was that we were able to get through and had the whole Dragon to ourselves!

This is all useful info. I have decided to leave my wife at the bottom, or beginning and ride it with my buds. She has no desire and I should find it easier without the extra load on the back. She only weighs 140 but 140 is 140.

No one answered this question, so I am making a bump - anyone know where these rides reside?

+1 ... Been there, done that. Once was enough. Way too congested and far too many rookie riders who think they are "knee draggers" There are far too many other great roads in the area. Here is a link to a map that provides information on great brides in and around the area that will keep you riding for days on great roads with plenty of great scenery. http://shop.americaridesmaps.com/12-...ides-NC007.htm
