I installed Polk DB6501's (I know not as nice as the mm's). Anyway, at the advice of some other forum members, I decided to do this in steps and see how I like it without the amp first.

I installed them with an Alpine CDA-105 and I get distortion about 20 volume on the dial...

Will the amp give me louder sound without the distortion so bad...

I'm definitely not an audiophile.

i have tried several sets of speakers, infinity, fosgate, polk db651s, etc etc, the ones i found that i liked the best was the polk mm651, they are crisp, clear, loud and more importantly they are very light weight, other speakers are heavy and can crack the support bracket, i am switching from the arc audio amp to the new fosgate amp, you would be better off to get an amp for your speakers, big big difference for sure

 

For the Polk mm651, what brand adapter ring did you use? I see Crutchfield lists them as 6.75" speakers, and just wondering if a specail brand adapter is needed to get the holes to line up.
