Putting a MU tire on a 00 01 02 03 touring bike pulley spacer FYI
So I asked around here, and some had issues others did not when trying to put a MU aka 140 mm rear tire on their touring bikes. I wanted a MU and mine rubbed the bottom belt cover and the clearance between the bet and tire may be .10 of a inch if that. So I'm modifying the belt cover and wanted to share that you can get a pulley from drag specialities for about $10, but I opted for this one.

it looks machined and it is made for us 00-03 guys trying to put a larger tire on or biks. The rim is the same 04 and up, its just the belt is a bit narrower. When it comes in, I plan to measer the shim and let you know it's thinkness. I wish I had know about all of this before I put it all back together, maybe this will save some of yall some time. Hope it helps.

I have the MU9016 E3 on my 02. I used the Pingel spacer http://www.pingelonline.com/rear_sprocket_spacer.htm and trimmed the guard. No issues on third set of tires. -- Tom

I put the MU90B16 Elite 3 on the back of my '02 glide - had to cut off the belt guard next to the tire and the belt still walks to the inside of the pulley and rubs a little when I back up. I have the Vulcanworks spacer (.250") but haven't installed it yet - I need to get the proper replacement bolts to reinstall the pulley - I think there needs to be at least 1" of threads in the hub after installing the spacer http://www.performancemachine.com/As...ionsPulley.pdf
My dealer sells a the pulley bolts with no shoulder (threads all the way) which I don't think is right either IMHO

Just Dave,
I've followed threads on this topic for a long time, since before I tried out an MU on my bike. There seems to be no consistent experience! Some owners have no clearance problems, some like me have to take action. Part of this is probably because different brands of MU tyre have different fitted widths. I doubt if your wheel has changed things, as they are made to tight International specs.

Just wanted to add to be sure and get a bolt with the correct length shoulder that will go thru the pulley and spacer, the thread portion of a bolt is a smaller diameter than a shoulder diameter which can cause the spacer to walk back and forth until the bolt shears. If anyone is interested.
