Default My Extended Backrest Solution, with Pics

I promised a couple members I'd post pics when I got this done. I took the Tour Pak off my Limited and added the Detachable Hardware and the Backrest for the wife.

Problem was, because of the Tallboy seat I'm using, the wife had less room, and we all know what happens when Mama ain't happy

Anyway, I got to looking at the way the Backrest was made and I had an idea to extend it "back" and "up" but it required welding.

I've got a great welder/fabricator I've worked with in the past, so I brought him my idea to see if it could be done.

Here is the result, he cut the rod that was welded to the Detachable Frame Pieces, extended the rod 2" and welded everything back together.

I'll have to get it re-chromed this winter, but for now, I just sprayed the welds with Clear Enamel Spray paint to keep it from rusting.

Really happy with the way it turned out.

Very nice. So it gave your bsr 2 inches or so more room?

Thanks,

Almost 2", because the bar is at an angle, it probably moved it back 1.5" and up .5"

That 1.5" of extra room really helps though. Almost makes up for the 2" that the Tallboy seat moved me back.

Talldog, I had the same thing done to the sissy bar for my 2011 RKC. Had a welder add 2" and it makes a world of difference for passenger and rider comfort. I have silver spray paint on mine for now until I get it chromed over the winter. Not sure why Harley doesn't offer a solution but this alteration works well!

I think I'm gonna bring it back to the welder this winter and go a little farther back, he said he could have safely went 3".

I actually submitted the idea to Harley, we'll see what happens. Maybe next year they'll have it in the catalog. Like you said, it's such an easy adjustment, I can't believe Harley doesn't offer this.

What does chroming something like that cost? We have a chrome service right here in Corpus Christi and my wife could probably use the extra room too. Great Idea!!!

Yeah im going to be cutting up and reworking the stock backrest this winter.

I'm also creating a detachable backrest/luggage rack combo for riding solo that uses the OEM 2-point docking hardware

That's a great question, anyone know a ballpark to get this backrest re-chromed.

BTW, dealer said it should be "Triple Show Chrome Plated" whatever that means.
