I need help finding a starter idler gear part # 31525-90. I broke some of the teeth on mine. HD no longer sells part. They want you to buy new starter. Part was available for ~$15.00. Do not want to buy whole new starter for a $15 part. I have found part online at multiple sites, but they must just resell the hd part, because not in stock. I have also check J&P and other after market sites. Any suggestions would help. Some place with surplus stock? Any help would be appreciated.

You would almost have to contact each HD dealer for one that still has NOS on hand. It is possible but would take time.

 

I found the part. Called an online HD dealer and they were out of stock, but he set me a word doc showing all HD dealers that showed they had the gear in stock. After multiple calls/emails I did find one in stock. I really appreciate the HD dealer that took the effort to help me locate. I wish my local dealer was that helpful, but in all my dealing with my local they seem to be about money not service. My experience.

I found mine at the local starter and generator shop. It is the same gear used on some of the Toyotas. I think it was around $12.00.

This part (31525-90) is becoming harder to find at HD dealers (many listed on this post do not have it anymore). I finally found one at a dealer in the midwest after many attempts elsewhere. Did find VTwin Mfg. has an oem replacement and the p/n is 32-0679

Like I said before, check your local starter & generator shop. The owner of the one closest to me rides an Ultra and when I came in with the broken gear, he knew what I was working on. He had plenty of them.
