Question Cruise control problem question

I did search this problem, but didn't see any quite like mine. So I have a 1999 Ultra. 42000 miles. Use cruise control a lot. Recently on a trip it started to be a little erratic. Would surge just a little up hill or down. Had never done this before. Then you might go 50 miles and it would be fine. When it was engaged and started doing that I could crack the throttle just a little and it would quit. You guys with the newer models keep in mind that my bike still has throttle cables. Anyone with older bike had this problem. I wonder if the cable just needs lubed? Any ideas?

Thanks

Yes, try some dry teflon spray it could also be a frayed cable wire making it stick. They are easy to change out.

Check for slop in the cable adjustment.

There's a 'lash adjustment' procedure in the service manual for the cruise pre-08. Generally, you perform it during installation. If you look everything over and there aren't any obvious mechanical issues, you might try performing the procedure. Essentially, it adjusts the cable and removes 'slack', I believe. If you've had any service/repair done recently that might have moved the cruise cable routing, or changed the adjustment of the throttle/idle cables, the lash adjustment won't hurt. Plus, I assume the cruise has been in place 12 years...so maybe the cable's stretched a little, or other things have worn and/or shifted and everything needs to be brought back into a baseline. I'm guessing, now... Good luck.

A buddy of mines '03 quit working and one of his cables had frayed. Changed out the cable and the cruise has been perfect ever since. Check your throttle cables.

Default '01 cruise control dead?

My cruise control problem is different. I have an '01 UC and my light comes on green at the rocker switch, but nothing else happens regardless of my speed or gear. The orange indicator light does not come on. Any ideas??

Mine went stupid last year. After asking some questions on here, I checked and the brake was staying engaged. Doh!
