Sudden oil pressure drop

Sudden oil pressure drop
The bike is a 2002 FLHTCUI, 88ci, injected. Oil pressure had been consistent at 32 until a couple months ago when it jumped up to about 40 at 2500 rpm. I checked the oil level and thought it was reading about a quart low so I added it. Ran it about 100 miles, then this morning I started it up and it dropped to nearly "0". Would only come up to 10 at 3500 rpm. Did overfilling the oil cause the problem? Does anyone have any idea why it the pressure went up and fell of the table? I am not a wrench-turner and need some advice.
Thanks

How many miles on the bike? Cam chain tensoiner shoes could have sent a piece through the oil pump. I would not run it until the cam chest is opened up and oil pump, cam plate and shoes are checked. At this point you may have gotten lucky. I may be off with my assessment but that is what I would be doing if it were my bike. Good luck and keep us posted on your find.

I usually agree, but I had the same thing happen & tried replacing the sender with no luck, the tensioners were toast. The more he runs it the more chance he has of doing major damage to the engine, plus there's no reason to spend money on a sender or gauge, if anything check with a mech gauge, which usually means taking it in or buying one. If the OP checks back in with more info we can give a more educated guess, IE miles on bike & have tensioners ever been checked.
