Default Clutch adjustment question?

First off its a 2009 EG Classic.

The bike was lurching forward when starting the bike in gear, so I adjusted the clutch after watching the video posted on this forum. I still have the lurching when starting in gear.

Do I need to back out the allen bold 1 full turn (as the service manual states) or could it be a cable adjustment? Any ideas as to what I did wrong, as always any help is appreciated.

1-Why don't you start it neutral?
2-How much slack do you have at the lever?
3-What primary fluid are you using?
4-How much did you back off the adjuster?

A1. Dunno, guess I could...does that mean my clutch is adjusted right?
A2. Its now a little more slack than the recommended 1/16 in.
A3. Synthetic from the dealership
A4. Adjuster backed off 1/2 turn from first resistance

I would start with 3/4 of a turn and see what that does.

The more you back off the adjuster the less clutch disengagement you will get, IE 1 turn means less than 1/2 turn. Not sure the procedure you followed but the bike has to be cold & the cable completely loose before adjusting the rod, if that was the case I don't have any other suggestions, except to start it in neutral.

Mine has always moved a little when I accidentally start in gear.

I have always started my bikes in neutral unless it's warmed up already. Try adjusting the cable to bring the lever slack into spec. And if that doesn't help readjust the clutch.
It's common to have the bike lurch when starting it cold in gear. That's why most everyone I know doesn't do it. How does it react after it's warmed up? It's also easier on the starter when starting in neutral.

Bike was cold, cable was loosened all the way.

Another question, should the bike be in neutral when adjusting the rod? I had it in neutral, just checking.

Thanks,

The clutch doesn't know if it's in gear or not, so it doesn't make any difference. Sounds like you did everything the way it's supposed to be done, don't know what to tell you other than to keep taking a little bit more slack out of the cable. You didn't answer whether it bothers both cold & hot, it's a wet clutch & after sitting & cooling off it's not going to fully disengage, sorry to say it's best to start in neutral whenever possible, except maybe if you kill it at a stop light or something.

I gather that if you start the bike in gear when cold, you don't warm it up before riding it either?

I only start it in gear when I've stalled it in gear, (like a dumb#ss.)

And when cold I start it in neutral and drive it only when the motor slows down to warm idle speed...j

Maybe reading too much into it...
