Default Fuel leak 08 EG

I just got everything together from my stereo install, and rode down the road to check it out, when I felt something wet hit my left leg. Turns out it is a fuel leak coming from what I would call a petcock on a carb bike, but not sure if that is what you call it on EFI.

Anyway, I made sure the upper nut is tight in the tank, but the middle section between that nut and the black nipple that the hose connects to is loose, spinning freely, and that is where the gas is coming from.

After tightening the petcock(?) down, it made it worse. Any suggestions?

That is a quick release fitting. you push it up to disconnect the fuel line from the tank. There is a rubber oring inside that is probalby out of position or leaking. Do a search, I think someone has done a write up on it and listed a part number for the oring.

Well it certainly seems to be a common issue with these quick disconnects. I got it separated, but I don't see any Oring at all, does it go on the black nipple part or inside of the housing that it plugs into?

It is most likely the O-ring inside the quick disconnect. Harley does not sell just the O-ring. I just replaced the one in my 07 Ultra. Got it from John Deere. I'll look for the part number.

Found it. Here is the thread. Hope the O-ring is the same size on the 08.

Hey man, thanks a lot. I got it to stop leaking temporarily by wrapping teflon tape around the nipple. That will at least let me ride it to the stealer. I will definitely try to find an Oring before that though.

the dealer will tell you that you need a whole new assembly.
the o-ring is the same as the oil drain plug i believe. You need to dig the original out with a dental type pick and match it up. Grab a couple and stick one in the tool box.
I had the same issue and i was able to easily correct this myself.

Ok, I need to get some clarification. I have the O-rings. Do I need to take the assembly out of the tank, or can I fish out the old O-ring with it in? Any precautions I need to take?
