Default Difference in SG vs RK enging mounting?

Is there a difference in engine mounts between a Street Glide and a Road King? Seems like my new SG has more engine vibration at highway speeds than my '05 RK had. I've not been using 6th gear much because at 2200-2800 RPM there is more vibration and more mirror blurring. I leave in 5th unless I'm going 75 or faster.

I don't think there is any difference. Unless they were smart enough to use urethane bushings instead of rubber. And I doubt that. I too stay out of 6th gear unless I'm doing at least 70 mph. And I don't feel any excess vibration. Just a couple of huge pistons working to make a 800 lb machine go down the road.

If your "new SG is an '09 and up, then yeah there is a brand new frame. I believe the engine mounts are same style though and haven't heard anybody mention increased vibration.

I will shift my Limited into 6th gear around 60. Seems to pull very well even 2 up. I cant imagine running 70 to 75 in 5th. Whats the point of having a 6th gear if you never use it.

'09s and newer added an additional engine mount on the top of the front cylinder. Pre '09s do not have this mount. In theory, this is supposed to attenuate some of the Big Twin's vibration. Personally, I love the way my bike "moves" and I really enjoyed the way my '00 Road King rattled like a paint mixer at idle...

I use 6th gear alot . Seems plenty happy 55+ mph as long as it's flat or a decline. I do have a Stage 1 kit, so this makes a difference.

To the OP, the frames and engine mounts on the Streetglide and Road King are the same, unless I'm mistaken. They have different shocks, though.

You shouldn't be getting any engine vibration at cruise. Have you checked the balance of the tires?

Just noticed you have a 103, so maybe that is a difference and those with that motor can chime in...good luck.

The pre-07's had the same mount on top between the cylinders. It was just moved to the front in 07 to accommadate the switch from a 5 gallon to 6 gallon gas tank. It's always been there on the twin cam bikes.

09 and up have a mount on each side on the bottom, pre-09 have only one in the center. This is an improvement IMHO.

No difference between between a RK & SG of the same model year. In '09 the Touring frames were changed for the first time in 20+ years to include, among other things, a 4 point mounting system.

I was told by the dealer to treat it like an overdrive. Below 70 mph on my RK, 6th gear feels like I'm lugging it. Mine cruises nicely in 5th at 65 mph and doesn't sound, or feel, like I'm over-revving it.
