Default Need help: apes pushed up so windshield cannot go on, any solutions would be apprecia

I have a 2011 RK and I put 18" apes and pushed them up front. I cannot put the windshield on because of clearance issues that I know would crop up. I asked the dealer if there is an extention made to help but he said no.

I don't use the windshield around town anyway, but I do go on long rides and would like the option of using it on them. I went to Florida this summer on my old 2008 EG and would not have liked it very much without a windshield. Especially in the Everglades.

Any help would be appreciated. I have a fabricator right by my house I have used and maybe a custom piece is my only option.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Can you trim the plexiglass windshield or is the mounting bracket itself the issue?

It is the mounting bracket. I need about 1 1/2" more to get it locked in. I was hoping there was a simple piece but I am finding out that is not the case.

This might be too obvious, but why not loosen the bars and rotate them back enough so that the windshield can be mounted? I have 14" bars on mine and positioned them so that the windshield just touches the braided cables. Would be worth trying before you mess with creating a bracket. Just a thought.

Thats what I did with mine as well, just moved them back enough. I do ride with a guy that made a windshield to fit on top of the bars. He just cut out some plexi and mounted it directly to his bars. He used some factory brackets and modified them and just uses tie straps to attach it. You can see it pretty good in this pic. This was back when he first started fooling with it. He has reshaped the top of it a lot since and it looks nicer now.
