Default rookie question

I recently picked up an 06 street glide and have a question about the temperature gauge. The manual says that it reads " air temperature".....my question is, where does it measure air temperature? Im pretty sure it isnt the ambient air temp. Does anyone knwo where the sensor is located? Im just curious.

It is ambient air temp. It is up in the fairing somewhere according to my salesman. Mine is pegged at 100 most of the time!

The guage has a sensor in the fairing, but it's basically useless, most people who want a usefull guage put an oil temp guage in it's place, I don't know why the MOCO didn't do that from the begining, oh yes I do...$$$$, lol.

Take it out and make it an oil temp gauge.

The sensor is up inside the fairing. More it down and locate it under the fairing, it will improve the accuracy.

You can also extend the wires and relocate the sender if you would like to keep it and get accurate air temp, but a lot of people do replace it with oil tem. If you do replace, go aftermarket for a gauge that can actually be read.

The temp gage on my Ultra is pretty much useless. It always reads around 100 F. Has anyone relocated the sensor out of the fairing with good results?

I don't know where the sensor is, but mine constantly says it is 100+, even when I know for a fact that it is in the 70's. The only time it is almost close is first thing in the morning - and then it is hit or miss.
