Sounds as if this vehicle is 'not fit for purpose', as well as not being safe. Another option is to reject it and demand a replacement, if your laws allow for such action.

Within a week of buying it - front end (handle bars shaking so bad- it's dangerous) The PROBELM IS WHEN he DECELS - anyway, back to dealership -they tried a few things then they agreed - dangerous wouldn't ride it - (last week my husband stuck around for 6 hours so he could test drive it everytime they worked on it - as well as the mechanic testing it)- so far nothing has worked. Deeley's spoke with Milwakee who told the mechanics to try 2 or 3 things. We're still waiting to hear. The dealer is co-operating - but (apparently) his hands are tied - until he goes thru the process as mentioned above. (We've basically told the dealership to find us a new bike) - but of course they have to go thru the process of elimination etc. - who knows how long that will take? Note- when he 1st took it out of the showroom the 1st 400 klms ride was so smooth he was surprised - then out of nowhere - decelerated & violent shaking - limped home & called dealership to pick it up - afraid to drive it - never experienced anything like it!!)

Since posting this - We've had several of the same responses - with decel problems.
We want to know if anyone else is having or has had any of these similar issues, & how it was resolved (ie dealership resolved etc.) We are starting to think that this is a (2011+-) problem that HD is aware of but not advising dealerships or owners, which of course is unacceptable when you pay over 20K not to mention the danger to the rider!!

He plans on doing a trip down thru the states in 30 days with a friend - thats why he bought a NEW bike - even if it gets fixed - not going to be so confident - especially taking a trip thru mountains etc.

I'm writing this on his behalf (I'm a little better on the PC)

Please - if any of you have had this issue - maybe there's a problem with some part being defective? It's bad enough being out there & not being seen or heard by drivers - but even worse if the bike itself might kill you!!

Thanks, appreciate any help or info
Had my 09 RG start gettin a little shakin of the handle bars on occasion while decelerating and then it developed a shake while the cruise was on when I took my hands off of the grips. I put the bike on my cycle lift & tightened the steering head bearings. No more head shake now. Hope yours is a relatively simple fix.

My 2010 road glide wobbled badly from day one. Tightened steering neck bearings. Solid as a rock now. Cant believe that could pass final inspection. They try to tell you that new bikes go out of adjustment all the time. What a crock!

Have you checked the front tire? for balance as well as for being out-of round?
It is posssible on a new cast wheel.

funny thing this decel wobble. I have a 2011 roadglide ultra and mine has the wobble on decel from ~45mph down to 35mph only on decel with hands off the bars. any pressure no matter how light the bars won't start the wobble and again it only does it on coast down decel. I can go no handed at steady speeds no issues. I put a detach tour trunk kit on and lo and behold without the trunk no more decel wobble. I have replaced the front tire at 8600 miles due to be worn out and it was the same with either tire. trunk on decel wobble trunk off no wobble. As far as pre ride delivery I doubt any tech is going to do the hands off the bar test when decellerating so I can see how it would not get caught. My fall away is within the recommendation by harley but was going to cinch it a little tighter to see if it helps.

+1 - once they corrected that in mine, it was running without the wobble. Fall away went from 3 to 1.5

Any updates? Got the issue fixed?

Maybe it has been done, not sure, but you should also open a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration. I did.

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Complaint.cfm

We have to stop covering for HD trying to fix this ourselves and get them to own up to their product. I love this bike, but the "till death do us part" was only something I agreed with my wife.... This is what I submitted back in May, 2011

2011 Harley Davidson Road Glide Custom (FLTRX) front end shake when motorcycle is between 37-42 mph. Air pressure for tires at recommended value from owners manual. This is happening from new, very unsafe to ride in that mph range.
The list did not have the FLTRX so I used FLTRU and documented FLTRX in the description...

And as I mentioned, the adjustment to the steering head was all that was needed in mine to fix the problem. Some have needed a new tire, or to balance the wheel, steering head adjustment, all three, etc....

I had a Yamaha V-Star that would have steering occilation is hands were removed but steady with hands on. I figured it was the windshield, an American cycle plexiglass type. Wind resistance can do wierd things. For the poster who had the wobble when the tour pack was off, I would suspect the same thing, wind resistance or odd aerodynamics to the bike. Is the fairing on the OP bike adjustable?

Unhappy 2011 ROAD GLIDE -Dangerous shaking when decelerating

Still haven't got our 2011 Road Glide back yet- they apparently worked on it Thurs. for 6 hrs. took off tour pack - then tried taking off windshield. Still too dangerous to ride. He's going in on Monday to ask for a print out of all the work done so far - from mechanic - then taking it up again with the owner - again. We happened to stop at another dealership on Friday - only to be told by 1 of the mechanics - that all the 'Glides' seem to have a slight shake & that the 'hands on' is more or less a requirement ! - Great - how are you suppose to access the cruise, stereo etc. if you're not to take the hands off. We are now starting to believe that there is definately a PROBLEM with THIS MODEL (Apparently the 'Road Glides' available are very few - if any according the the 2 dealers we talked to here in Ontario) & even if we could get A REPLACEMENT - it seems that they all have this problem - some shake less. The last thing we want, is to have an unreliable bike for this trip. He bought it about 1 month ago & has been able to ride it maybe 7-10 days(tops) - including the trips to the dealership. The 1st 400 klms. was smooth riding (so we know what it should ride & feel like) then came the VIOLENT SHAKE--- picked-up by dealer - they thought they had it fixed (overtorqued the bearings ,a jr. mechanic). We took a trip (it seemed fine) - took it in for it's 1st service - they noticed that it was overtorqued - put it back to spec (otherwise it would create other problems, apparently) - & haven't had the bike back since - was dyno tested - pretty much all the Sr. mechanic could think of plus everything Deeley & HD told him to check. They are out of things to try.

PS- The other dealership had an Ultra Glide (I believe) around $37,000 - that mechanic told us it shakes as well - (obviously not as violently as ours) but you have to wonder how they can sell these bikes & not think that there is something wrong with the shake??to actually believe that's the way they are. Even our old Road King'95 (which we loved ) compared to the new bike - was a better ride than the one we bought!

We sure didn't get our $$$ worth here - just headaches & downtime.

Thanks to all who respond - hope to know more Mon. Aug. 29th.

We test drove a 2011 road glide ultra that had this. Amazing that their test drive bike would have an issue. Just very odd to me.
