Default Please help, 18x5.5 or 17x6.25 rear wheel/tire for street glide

I am looking at pullin the trigger on a new set of colorado custom wheels. I was thinking 21/18 combo. I talked to the local shop and the guy said a 17x6.25 would be better than the 18x5.5. Any input? The rotors, bearings, and tires are already part of the package and they want another three hundred dollars for them to put the wheels on the bike and do the front fender mod, Does that seem a little high? Any heklp or input would be greatly appreciated. this is my first big purchase for an extra on my bike, I wanna make sure I do it righit the first time around? Also I ride about 6,000 miles a year, and 40 percent is two up isthe 21 gonna sacrifice a lot of the ride? would the 17 ridebe better than the 18?

if you decide to go with a 18 x 5.5" make sure to go with a 180/55-18 tire. The 200 size tires on the 18 x 5.5" wheels cause lots of problems. We personally sell more 17 x 6.25" with 200 tires but it is just a personal preference. It should take around 2-3 hours to install the wheels and make the fender adjustment for the average shop. Also we sell Colorado Customs wheel packages at a discount so if you already got a good price quote I will see if I can beat it.

I went with the 21x17 setup. I have a 200 rear tire. It handles fine and has done just fine on several long loaded down trips with the wife. Can't speak to the 18.

dont know what year bike you have but on my 09, the 18 rear with 21 front cause nothing but problems (180 tire on the 18 rear) switched to a 17 with a 200 tire and the high speed wobble problem was solved.
Rob at HogPro is a great guy to deal with, he hooked me up with my V Rod tire/wheel combo a couple years ago.
