Default 09 SG P2135 DTC Limp Mode

I was on a 450 mile trip yesterday and about 200 miles into it, my bike went into limp mode and the check engine light came on. I pulled over, shut it off, started it back up immediately, and finished the trip with no other issues. Today I checked for DTC's and found P1511: EFI Power Management mode (there because it went in to limp mode I assume) and P2135- TPS correlation error. So I've read numerous threads and I'm confused so I'll just ask this: What causes a P2135? My bike is stock (no PCM or stage 1) and the right switch housing was loosened enough to replace the grip about 10k miles ago. I pulled the plug on the connector to the Throttle Control Actuator to check the pins and wires (moved the sheath up as high as I could get it) and didn't find any problems. I rode this bike 3300 miles to and from Sturgis two weeks ago and no problems.
Its not under warranty anymore and I can't ever see myself paying a dealer to do anything to a bike I own. I hope it was just a fluke and doesn't happen again.

P2135?: any past experience or suggestions?

Unless you own the digital tech, you will have to carry it to a dealer.

I had the same problem with my 2010 Ultra on the way to Sturgis last week. My problem was the black/white (pin 1)wire was broke about a half inch away from the TCA connector behind the air cleaner. I was lucky and have the Powervision plugged in and could watch the Twist Grip Sensor Signal and the Throttle Control Actuator signal. The TCA signal would go to 8 or 9 % and stay there when it was not working and when it was working it would pretty much follow the twist grip signal. Basically what happened was the ECU couldn't figure out where the Throttle Control Actuator was and if it was moving when the throttle was moved. What I think happens is when you twist the throttle it sends the signal to the ECU which does it's thing and sends the TCA signal to the TCA to open the buttterfly in the intake and the TCA has two sensors in it that send position information back to the ECU so the ECU knows where the TCA is. The ECU is looking to make sure the value of both of the signals equals 5volts (one signal starts at 5v and goes to zero and the other starts at zero and goes to 5v). The black and white wire is the sensor ground. If they don't add up the ECU sets the code you saw and you are in limp home mode. I was lucky and was able to get my bike to Knoxville Tn where the dealer was able to fix the wire (added a pig tail and new pin) and sent me on my way in about an hour.

So four years and a couple months later, this happened again. I was googling it (P2135)and came across this old thread... This time, I had just pulled out of the driveway and was down the road about an 1/8th mile and lost throttle response. I pulled over, turned off the bike, started it up and went on about my business. Hopefully it will be another 4 years or so before it does it again...

===============

my 09 flhtcu 1st did this at approx 13k miles & dealer could not re-produce the issue and it tested ok.

The pins in connector & on Throttle body were cleaned & connector was reinstalled using dialectric grease.

It did it again approx 3k miles later while o was on a major highway (2 lanes each direction) going approx 65mph in hvy traffic in the middle of a easy sweeping turn with car/trucks close behind me and next to me with no place to go and the frigging bike all the sudden went limp mode again loosing power almost causing a major accident from traffic behind me almost running over me when the bike all the sudden slowed down whern it lost power .

I took the bike back to HD & told them i wont accept the bike until install the new updated/replacement connector pins etc in the throttle body connector which they did.

And they also said the diagnostics did in fact show there was an issue with the throttle body connector this time .

Only been approx 1,500-2k miles since then & so far all has been good with the throttle body connector .

But the IPB thats been been making noise (low lvl) since i bought the bike with approx 10k miles on it 11/2014 has gotten a bit louder with bike now at 17k miles telling me it will need replacement sooner then later.

The prior owner had k1 mile srvc done @ HD dealer where they changed all 3 holes using syn3 20w-50 as refill, he also had 5k srvc done which was just motor oil & filter change with again syn3 20w-50.

So when i got the bike IPB was already making a little low lvl noise showing it was already showing premature wear that i dont know if syn3 had anything to do with or not.

Compensator was shot with i 1st got the bike with just under 10k miles on it making the dreaded loud " BANG " noise when firing up along with also making the bike very sketchy / jittery feeling getting under way from a dead stop too.

I installed a new Se comp kit & compensaver and that took care of that issue.

I switched to spectro oil in the motor/trans/prim when i got the bike with just under 10k miles on it but for what every the reason the IPB was already showing it was going to be an issue in the future.

But the motor /trans/prim seem'd to like the spectro oils that are specifically designed & formulated for each of those 3 apps in a lrg disp HD v-twin.
